Christmas Canada Memories

By Janet C.

Hey Boo! These is a summission for the Christmas contest.

The following is true.

First I have to say that my family and I are very very close.. although the we are seperated by the miles we talk 2–3 times a day.

Back in Christmas 2005, my hubby & I booked airline tickets to visit our families in Newfoundland (we live in the Greater Toronto Area, Ontario). We only informed my brother, my Aunt Joan and hubby’s sister. The rest of our family DID NOT know any of the Christmas plans.

I informed my parents that we sent our Christmas gifts to the family via Canada Post (but of couse we kept them until we flew in on December 21). My Dad would visit the mail box everyday and no gifts..he went as far and going to the Canada Post post office and informing them there SHOULD be a parcel for him. but there was no parecel.  My Mom on the other hand was not really in the christmas spirits, she really wanted to see me and my husband for the holidays. We explained to her that we just couldn’t get time off work and all the flights we booked up. (Meanwhile we booked the flights back in September of that year).

So on Decemebr 21 we arrived in the afternoon and my brother picked us from the airport. The plan was to suprise my family at my Aunt Joan’s. My Aunt Joan had invited all my family at her house for supper, which is nothing out of the ordinary. My hubby and I landed and we went to my Aunt Joan’s  We called while in route, Aunt Joan never let on that it was us on the phone. So after supper everyone was watching the local 6:00 news (in their basement reckroom). We came in the front upstairs door and my Aunt Joan said to my family so that must be her son coming home for something that he forgot. ;)

Hubby and I went downstairs and walked into the room and my parents went into shock!! :0

My Dad started to cry like a  baby!! (the last time I saw my Dad cry was when my Grandfather died 8 years ago)  My Mom sat up and sat down — she didn’t know what to with herself. Both my parents couldn’t believe that we were there. At one point I thought my Mom had a heart attack for the suprise we gave her! She went all white and couldn’t speak!! Everyone started to cry, everyone was sooooooo happy and overjoyed!!! Mom then said “Oh I must go home and get home and get ready for Christmas!” You never seen a women move so fast to get home and prepare Christmas “tasks.

We gave the Christmas gifts on Christmas day and my dad started to laugh… rememebering all the times we travelled to the post office for the Christmas parcels. :)

Hubby and I left my Aunt’s house and started to visiting our friends and families that night. We surprised so many individuals that night, but surprising my parents was the best!!

That was one of the best Christmases ever!!!!

Thanks!
Janet

Oh what a lovely story & surprize! The holidays are the best when family can be all together! LOL, at your dad going to CP to find his gift! Cute!

Made me cry too. I surprised my mom last yr on her 60th birthday and the situation was very similar and received the same reaction. Great story– Thanks for sharing!

As I am far away from home with my husband, I wish I could give my parents such a surprise, in my case I cannot book tickets any more, they are all sold out.

I visit this site from abroad and send the information to my mother who does not use a computer. I love it when she gets the samples that I have sent her from here or let her know about sales.

Thank you for a lovely story.

    Janet,

I must admit that you brought a smile and dare I say a tear in my eye.

All the trips that your father was making at Canada Post they must of been so annoyed by his actions. That is just too funny.

    Enjoayable story. Thanks for sharing

    Merry Xmas Janet

Geez, that was a lovely story. Stories like this make me cry and wish my family is just like yours. My family probably wouldn’t even care if I just dropped dead right this moment. You are so lucky to have your amazing family. That was really sweet and wonderful of you and your husband to make them so happy. Happy Holidays everyone ♥
