10 Free alternatives to popular Mac applications

Posted by & filed under Canadian Deals & Coupons.

The fine folks over at makeuseof.com have put together a fantastically frugal list of 10 freeware alternatives to popular commercial Mac programs.  Alternatives to iWork, PhotoShop CS3 and Parallels are amongst the list of needlessly pricey software to have a freeware counterpart.

As a recent Mac-adopter (recent-ish — it’s been about 18 months) I can’t help but wonder how many SmartCanuckers join me in the cult of Mac.  Speak up and be heard, fellow Mac users!

Sorry Jim Pc here, I love my pc, and I really dislike that Mac has to make lame commercials bringing down the pc to get Mac users.

I’ve had a mac for about the same length of time as you, and will never go back to pc! I have fallen deeply in love with mac, and its for the long haul :)

I’ve had a mac for longer than i can remember ( like early 80’s) From the orignal apple computer, to the first imac, the cube, titanium powerbook to the g5 tower… They have their advantages and disadvantages its just more of a fad now though. They are great for certain industries but why pay for soooo much when you can get away with a 600$ PC?

I love my macbook!!! quality is just not the same.

It does have inconvenience though, like I’m trying to run an exe and I don’t understant half of the instructions over the internet…lol…

anyway… mac still rules for everything else!!!!

My first mac was a mac plus.… (with an amazing 1mb of ram!:) I actually have a powerbook 100 sitting in my basement… STILL working, and running OS 7.0.1:). I currently have an old imac sitting in the basement– the first model. I have an emac down there too… but, well.… no one uses it! (I’m 26 btw, and have ALWAYS had a computer in my house as a child) But, we have a new model imac, and a macbook pro currently in use. I can’t imagine using a pc.…. but, I don’t BASH them. I mean, often, my husband starts up in windows, and plays a game or two. I just don’t want to use it on an everyday basis. A lot of people bash macs, and love their pcs… but, have you actually USED one? Everyone I know that has switched LOVE them, and would never go back. As someone who never used a pc to begin with… I can honestly say, I have no interest in buying one:) Done rambling!
