What’s the opposite of buying in bulk?

Buying in bulk is oftentimes a great way to save money.  It’s pretty much a no-brainer.  But what about those products that you go out of your way to buy as minimally as possible?  What’s your anti-bulk?

Example: in recent years President’s Choice has introduced a half-pack of bacon.  Anytime we’ve ever bought a full pack of bacon we cook half of it and the other half goes bad long before we crave it again.  I gues we’re just not bacon people.  So when the half pack came out?  It was a perfect fit for our lifestyle!

While it may technically be more expensive strip by strip, it saves us because we’d just waste the rest.

Do you have any products like this?  Where you buy the small because you know the normal or bulk size would be a crazy move in your world?

National do not call registry is now available!

It’s been in the work for sometime, but as of today you can now register on the ’do not call’ list with your phone number to stop those dinner time telemarketing calls.

I’m estatic. I’m so tired of having a horn blow in my ear, with my captain speaking, the youv’e been approved for ”credit card” were calling about your ”’credit card” calls.

The site is super swamped today but click here to register you might have to keep trying or go back another day since I highly suspect there getting a large amount of Canadians signing up (Which they honestly should of been prepared for lol!)

I really hope this does weed out the 20 calls I average a week from telemarketers. I’ve been signed up with the CMA’s do not call list for years, but it really didn’t do too much, maybe weeded out a few but not many.

I don’t mind doing survey’s and such but 9 times out of 10 it’s for a ‘free cruise’ or phishing for my SIN number and personal info.

Hope everyone that wants to sign up gets in today!

Edited to add:

You can also call 1-866-580-DNCL (1-866-580-3625) or by TTY at 1-888-DNCL TTY (1-888-362-5889). You must be calling from the number you wish to register

Thanks to Sc’ers for posting this on the forum

Nickelback - Gotta Be Somebody Lyrics

Nickelback - Gotta Be Somebody Lyrics

This time, I wonder what it feels like
To find the one in this life, the one we all dream of
But dreams just aren’t enough
So I’ll be waiting for the real thing, I’ll know it by the feeling
The moment when we’re meeting, will play out like a scene
Straight off the silver screen
So I’ll be holding my own breath, right up ’til the end
Until that moment when, I find the one that I’ll spend forever with

McDonald’s Mondays: Advertising in your subconcious

This video was embedded using the YouTuber plugin by Roy Tanck. Adobe Flash Player is required to view the video.

Ever think all of that talk about subliminal advertising was paranoid bunk?  Think again.

An eagle-eyed viewer of Iron Chef America caught a McDonald’s image snuck into 1/30th of a second of the broadcast.  Inside Edition picked up on this and followed up  with both the network and McDonald’s.  The network says it was an accident and McDonald’s says they don’t do subliminal ads.

Accident or evil?  You decide.

Download Nickelback's new single "Gotta Be Somebody" mp3 for free

Download Nickelback’s new single “Gotta Be Somebody” mp3 for free.

I’m looking forward to listening to this new Nickelback song but I wouldn’t be surprised if, as usual, they’ve plagiarized from their own songs. I tend to find all Nickelback melodies sound very similar.

Canadian Tire Scratch and Win Events: Speaking Out

Canadian Tire Scratch and Win

On Smart Canucks new Store Reviews section Koala posted a helpful article on how to avoid getting cheated at Canadian Tire’s Scratch and Win Events. Here’s what she had to say:

First I will post the correspondance and then add further comment:

To Canadian Tire Customer Service customerservice@canadiantire.egain.net

Customer:
Composed Sept 16/08

I am writing to you to comment on your recent Birthday Bash Promo. On Sunday Sept 14/08 I shopped at Canadian Tire, Barton Street, Hamilton. I presented my scratch ticket to the cashier. She scratched it in a fashion that the results were concealed, and she said after she threw it in the garbage that there were no more cakes left.
Now my concern is, I did not witness the reveal, nor she did not show it to me. When asked to see it, her reply was “too late…it’s in the garbage.”
Was the prizing actually a cake or $5 or whatever. It would been easy to identify the ticket as the back was completed with name and the answer to the skill testing question.
I am very disatisfied in how this was handled, and do not appreciate the rude mannerisms of the cashier.

For your convenience

10 Free alternatives to popular Mac applications

The fine folks over at makeuseof.com have put together a fantastically frugal list of 10 freeware alternatives to popular commercial Mac programs.  Alternatives to iWork, PhotoShop CS3 and Parallels are amongst the list of needlessly pricey software to have a freeware counterpart.

As a recent Mac-adopter (recent-ish — it’s been about 18 months) I can’t help but wonder how many SmartCanuckers join me in the cult of Mac.  Speak up and be heard, fellow Mac users!
