Umm… Just FYI before people reading flock to buy this — you CANT use this in your car as the poster states. It doesnt have a 4G or LTE connection, so it will not work when travelling in the car.
This unit merely converts a wired internet connection into wifi. But you have to connect this to a wired internet/ethernet connection for it to do anything.
Which is ‘sort of’ useful, I guess, if you are in a place with no wifi, and all you have are devices with no ethernet jack (like a tablet, smartphone, etc) — but really, where can you go these days that has only wired internet, but not wifi??
Would this work on a cruise ship? Would you have to plug it in to one of the ship’s computers? Sorry, I’m not too tech savvy!
This item will only do it’s primary function wherever there is a wired (ie: Plug in with a network cable) internet connection.
You plug this in with that wired network cable and it converts that into a wireless connection for your devices that dont have wired jacks (devices like tablets, and smartphones, etc).
That being said, MOST cruise ships that offer internet, offer wifi anyway.
To be honest, this device is pretty needless for the sake of creating a portable wifi hotspot from a wired connection. As I capped the last post: Where do you go these days that offers internet that ISNT wifi?
It IS useful if you want to hide behind your own network firewall on an open WiFi access point. Also useful when you have to pay for EVERY device connected to a WiFi access point. Just pay for this device connection and then connect your other wifi devices (up to 5 at once I believe) to it.
