Best Buy Canada is offering an LG 50″ 1080p plasma HDTV for $999.99 with a free Xbox 360 250GB console. This is an excellent deal if you are looking for a large television and gaming console! I am completely unfamiliar with plasma televisions, however I know some people are firm believers they are better for sports and movies. What do you think? Please comment below!

You may find plasma a little better for movies and sports (in a dark room) but I’d suggest comparing energy usage plasma vs LCD. Plasma TVs are energy pigs and mine was getting a lot of usage during winter peak hours. I switched to LCD. Plus if you’re playing that xbox on that plasma, you risk ruining your TV with screen burn in.
I used to be a dept supervisor for the home theatre dept at best buy. We own 2 plasmas and 2 lcds. We watch tv mostly in the bedroom where we have a pioneer plasma. Although it is true about energy consumption, picture quality is more realistic and deeper blacks are achieved with a plasma which makes it great for movies and games. I am a firm believer in plasmas.
If your going to get a Plasma, you have to get warranty. The light is concenrated in the bulbs, LCD there are lights in the sides of the TV, LED is the top notch right now slim and the light bounces in between.
It all depends on preference. We have a plasma and love it, love it way better then lcds. Plasmas these days are way better then what they were when they first come out. Do your research with a site that is reliable and unbiased and youll find out that they last just as long as an lcd
With most plasmas “burn” is a thing of the past. Weve played many games etc with 0 problems, we have a panny plasma
LED is the way to go ..I got a 42 ” LED LG HDTV 1080 p for $ 599.99 from BB ..of course its not 50 ” but for a house or apartment 42″ is more than enough ..the XBOX 360 250 GB brand new can often be bought for $ 180 — $ 200 when on sale @ various retailers like EB games etc …LED is incredibly thin & light & energy saving & the picture is also very sharp
Plasma is old technology ..it was CRT then Plasma then LCD then LED
Plus PS3 is the way to go as you can use it as a Blu-Ray DVD player as well in addition to gaming in case you don’t have a Blu-ray DVD player
