It’s true that for gift cards the value of Air Miles is less in this instance. But if you look at reward options that have a better cents per mile value like buy one get one free movie tickets (Empire Theatres, Cineplex) then the value of 20 Air Miles can jump up to $7 or more. Using them for flights can sometimes give you better value than gift cards as well.

I agree that it would be great for the points to just stay in your HBC account instead of changing to airmiles, but…it does say right on the coupon:
“Terms and Conditions
You must be signed up for automatic redemption to receive this Bonus Offer.”

Yes Yes Yes!!! The points stay in your acct if you don’t have the airmile card like to the hbc card. I have used this coupon with no lost points in the past. Thank you so much for sharing!!!! Thanks to you and my babysitter I’m using this one tonight:)

operabob — I agree. That’s why I’m hoping that if you’re not signed up for automatic redemption then the points stay in your HBC Rewards account. 40000 HBC points are worth $5, while 20 Airmiles are only worth $2.50 (if you were to redeem a $20 GC to Metro for 160 Airmiles, for example).

Just remember:

If you convert HBc/Z points to AirMiles you lose 50% of your purchasing power.

Tried to print the coupon. Not only did it not print but now I have a “Printing Page” pop up box stuck on my computer screen that won’t go away. I’m pretty sure I’ll have to re-start my computer to get rid of it. I’d advise anyone else to think twice — are 20 Airmiles worth a possible virus?

Also… at Zellers… their flyer is advertising Classic Monopoly for $2.99 when you buy the newest version of certain Hasbro Board Games (such as Monopoly), which are “U Build” style. That would be a fast way to get two birthday or Christmas gifts taken care of (for two different kids in two different houses)… and save a stack of $$ on the second one… all while collecting extra air miles points!
