What is the Baby Box you ask? The Baby Box is something that was launched in Finland, where every new mother receives a box that contains many of the essentials needed for a newborn. The program began there in 1938, with these boxes being funded by the government, and distributed to everyone. These boxes commonly contain clothing, bibs, mats, diapers, sheets and toys, in a box that can be safely slept in, complete with a mattress even.
So, it will be interesting to see what will be included in these Baby Boxes that are now available in Canada, and can currently be ordered by residents of Ontario. To receive your Baby Box you must register through the link below. Your box should arrive about two months before the baby is born by Canada Post or courier. You will receive an email confirmation about three weeks prior to your box being shipped, and you must respond to this email, verifying your address.
The boxes will double as a starter crib, just as they do in Finland, and will contain many of the items that I have already mentioned. If you are not a resident of Ontario, you are still encouraged to sign up. Ontario is their pilot province, and hopefully this program will move to other provinces quickly!

This is awsome!!! I remember reading about these a few years ago and thinking how amazing it is and how people could tell what year your child was born based on what color/toys they got because they changed every year.
My only hindrance to loving this completely is that I really really really (really – haha) hope that they have a way of verifying or proving that you are indeed expecting because there are way too many greedy people in this world who would take advantage of this when they don’t really need it just because you know? OH MY GOSH ITS FREEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!
