Doors Open Toronto is taking place this weekend on May 26 and 27! The 19th annual Doors Open Toronto presented by Great Gulf provides an opportunity to see inside more than 130 of the most architecturally, historically, culturally and socially significant buildings across the city, for FREE!

This year’s theme, “Film: The Great Romance” explores the city’s film and television industry. With more than 1,400 on-location film, television and digital media productions taking place in the city each year, Toronto is North America’s third largest screen-based production centre and the heart of Canada’s film and television sector.

The Doors Open Toronto program features historic cinemas, film and television studios, post-production houses, digital media studios, artist-run centres and film training schools. The program also highlights buildings that have been featured in film and television, many of which are often not open to the public.

The inspiration for Doors Open Toronto came from Europe. France was the first country to launch its Doors Open program in 1984, followed by Glasgow in 1990. Currently, 48 European countries participate every September during European Heritage Month. In addition, Australia and the United States have also joined the highly successful Doors Open movement.

For those gamers who are nostalgic for a simpler time, a time without virtual realities and cloud services, then you’ll be pleased to hear that Nintendo Canada is re-releasing the NES Classic Edition. This is a miniaturized version of the entertainment system that “started it all” back in 1985, and it was previously re-released by Nintendo back in 2016.

Unfortunately, due to an overwhelming popularity with the #throwbackThursday crowd, this first re-release sold out VERY quickly, leading to resellers on third-party sites to jackup the price far higher than the original sale price of just $79.99.

This second re-release will be available on June 29, 2018 and, as per Nintendo’s announcement on Twitter, the system will continue to be sold through till the end of the year. Any retailer that sells video games should have the NES system available, but if you’re at all concerned about this, you could call ahead to confirm.

Included with each NES Classic edition will be the following:

• 30 classic retro NES games
• developer interviews of classic games
• one NES Classic controller (*can be used with NES Virtual Console games on your Wii or Wii U console)
• NES Classic Edition system
• HDMI cable
• AC adapter
