You read that right, buying cauliflower for only $1.98 each from Food Basics Canada is a hot deal! After all of the controversy about the cost of cauliflower a few weeks ago as reported be the Toronto Star, the price has finally dropped from around $7 a head to $1.98. The somewhat bland, low-key vegetable has become an unexpected symbol of our falling Loonie as there was a sharp rise of food prices across Canada. Grocers, however, have responded to the outcry and the modest cauliflower is now selling at Food Basics Stores on sale for $1.98.
Prices of cauliflower at various stores:
- Food Basics: $1.98
- No Frills: $2.97
- Superstore: $2.50
- Metro: $3.99
- Sobeys: $3.99

My Food Basics flyer (ON) has it for $2.88 each 🙁
I saw the news item about the 1.98 cauliflower Thursday morning on CBC, so I looked up the smartcanucks food basics flyer, and there it was at 1.98. In the evening the paper flyer arrived and it was 2.98 so I called the local FB store manager. He claimed that he had an email from the company saying that Smartcanucks had
made a mistake and he was standing by the 2.98 price.
Did FB screw up? if not, what really happened?
cauliflower at 1.98 is for GTA only
I find this posting rather funny.. or is it just me?
Caddle also has .25 cent rebate to reduce price further.
Rcss cauliflower is no longer on sale for $2.50. Now $5.99
In Quebec cauliflower 1.99 in Supermarche PA and Super C
Different flyer for different zones.
In Georgetown, it’s also 2.88 but whereas the posted ad shows bread, we’ve got pork loin halves for $1.49 (in the same location on the page where the bread is).
