Changes to FreshPoints Point Structure

 phone-center

In case you missed the email from them yesterday, FreshPoints have released a new points structure for redemptions on their app effective immediately.

  • Scan an item for 5 FreshPoints, up to 50 times a day.
  • Rate an item for 5 FreshPoints, up to 50 times a day.
  • Share on Facebook and Twitter for up to 6 FreshPoints.
  • Check-In to a location for 25 FreshPoints, up to 15 times a week.
  • Upload a photo for 5 FreshPoints, up to 50 times a week.

Redeeming for a $5 gift card has increased from 750 points to 5,000 points and $25 gift cards from 3,000 to 25,000 points.

Were you saving your points for a bigger redemption?  It seems very unfair to change the values so drastically without notice to those who were saving their points for a digger redemption, as many of us do.

Will you still use this app now that you need to earn so much more to redeem?

Bumped for those who may have missed this over the weekend, point structure updated again May 17

I wasn’t using it much to begin with. I didn’t use many of the products they had featured and felt awkward scanning in store. With the points change, I don’t think I will be using it much. Seems like a lot of work for a mere $5 gift card. The higher value cards seem unobtainable for me now. Too daunting!!

  2. ashoo says:

I don’t think I will be using this app any longer because just too much work for only $5 gift card.

I was less than 50 points away from a Starbucks gc but now I’m over 2000 points away. Previously I would only have needed to scan 25 products (at 2 points/product) but now I need to scan over 400 porducts (at 5 points/product) to reach that level. I think it was a really bad PR move to make these changes without any notice. I think I’m done with this app as the time investment just isn’t worth the rewards now.

  4. Linny says:

I wished we had some kind of warning, I didn’t get a chance to redeem my cards cause I was saving up for a $25 gas card.

  5. Lucy says:

It’s really disappointing….. I was so close to $25 a gift card, but now, I am not even half way!!!!

  6. nicole says:

    I agree. So disappointing!!

I don’t use this app, but I’m a little shocked that they changed it so drastically without giving a bit of leeway to current members. Even 3 days notice of the changes would have been showing appreciation for loyal users.

That being said, I’m not surprised at all that the rules have changed. It seemed way too easy to gain points and redeem them. They were probably paying out more than they were making.

  8. Tami says:

maybe an ignorant question, what are freshpoints? 🙂

  9. FallenPixels says:

Tami, it is an iOS app where you scan items and get points for doing so

  10. Tami says:

    aaah, thank you
that explains it why I have no idea….:-) I don’t own a smartphone!

  11. Lindsay says:

I do like the fact that I have the opportunity to scan multiple items at my choosing now as I found some of the items that they placed for points a little odd and frankly products I had never heard of. Ill still try to scan items but I’m not going to get my hopes up that ill ever get to redeem my points! It’s a lot of work for not a lot of payoff now!

  12. Shawna says:

I deleted my app yesterday when the change was put into place. Very disappointed in this!
However I was redeeming my points as soon as I had enough for a gift card so I’m thankful for that as many other people were saving up and got burned 🙁

  13. Isabelle says:

I agree with everyone. The time it takes to scan is not worth the reward anymore. I was less then 50 points away from my goal and am now missing over 4000 points. Really annoyed.

  14. Scubabare says:

I completely agree. I had enough points for a $25 gift card to Best Buy with points left over. Just wasn’t sure what I wanted so I was holding on. Some notice would have been nice. I think it was just rude of them to go ahead and change it without notice. I now 14000 points away. I think I’m done with this App. Too bad cuz it was fun

  15. Jackie says:

Out of my reach now. There comes a point where the rewards are not balanced with the work involved. As far as I am concerned they do not exist anymore.

  16. kristeven says:

Although I don’t have this app, this change is the reason that I usually redeem rewards at the first opportunity that I have (except for SDM and Sobeys) — don’t want to rack up my points, only to have them significantly devalued before I can cash them in.

  17. Disappointed says:

Wow – shocked to hear about these abrupt and slick changes to policy and procedure

I am mortified by the thought of how long it will take to accumulate points worth any value at redemption…

SO happy that I cashed out recently for $25 GC at bestbuy!!!

Seriously considering removal of the program from my phone and telling others to do the same; this is how we’re treated after doing all this ‘work and free advertising’ for the companies???

  18. Brian says:

    defintely not worth it anymore

  19. olivercat says:

I did not download this app, only because I did not think my data plan could handle the uploads. Guess I am glad now because, i would probably be one of those who had almost enough points… I am really sorry to hear of this issue and I am suggesting that giving them feedback would be a good idea–you may not recieve any benefit, but this is a company that needs to hear users responses to abrupt changes, especially the negative ones!

  20. Ashley says:

I had started using this maybe a month ago and even when the points structure changed, I found it to be a lot of work to obtain a $5 giftcard. Now that they have made this change, I will not be using the app at all.

  21. Jenny says:

I would like to point out that you’ve posted the incorrect points structure! You can scan and rate items for 5 points each, up to 50 times per DAY not week.

They must have changed it again, that was pasted directly from their site
