Food Basics & Metro: Get a $10 Gift Coupon When You Use CoinStar Machine

SO_Metro_Header

Do you still have lots of pennies lying around?  Cash your change in at a CoinStar machine at Metro or Food Basics and with your redemption voucher, you will also get a coupon for $10 off your next shop.  The minimum spend required is $10 to use the coupon so if you shop carefully, you can get items with nothing out of pocket.

Coinstar does charge a fee, for your $40 you get $35.25 back as your actual redemption voucher, so your $10 coupon is really worth $5.25 – but it is still a free $10 to spend and Food Basics has decent prices.

The redemption voucher can be cashed in at the store’s checkout for cash but the gift coupon must be used by July 10th.  Sadly, you cannot buy a gift card with the coupon (nor lottery, prescriptions, cigarettes/tobacco products, money orders/transfer, postage stamps, tokens, transit passes if available).

Do you know if the $40 you cash in is returned to you in cash (i.e. can i throw coins in and get a $20 bill, $10 bill, $5 bill, and a quarter, or is it just a voucher so i can go use the $35.25 to go buy groceries?

You get a voucher for the $35.25 which you can use for groceries *or* get cash at the CS desk
The $10 coupon must be used for groceries

im confused… do you have to put in $40 of change to get the coupon

    • FallenPixels says:

Yes, you throw your change in the machine and it counts it for you (for people too lazy to roll it and take it to the bank or for those with high teller fees)
It gives you back a ticket to get $35.25 ($40 minus the counting fee) from the cashier in higher denominations plus a $10 coupon
