Would somebody please tell Miss April that nothing is ever free in this world anymore.…..I visited my local Disney Store and was advised that they had no interest in my 3 plastic bottles (what are we supposed to do with these, she asked me) and you had to make a “minimun purchase” to get the freebie.…Store appeared to be runned by a couple of 17 year old students who did not have a clue about anything!!! (my girlfriend also experienced a similar reply at another Disney Store.….They had nothing free…

I just called the Disney Store at Limeridge Mall. According to Lindsay there who read to me a memo they received. She said the bottles are BPA free. They have to stamp the 7 on them because the top is made with one type of plastic and the bottom with another type. If ever they are to be recycled they must be done separately.

I contacted Disney about the bottles and this is the reply I got back from them:

Yesterday I went in to the Disney Store in Barrie, Ontario Canada at the Georgian Mall Location, after making the special trip from home to Barrie, and the effort to save, clean, and take in three empty bottles to get my free Mickey Mouse Earth Day Tote Bag which was offered for doing this. The site was on the web for over a week because it was my wife that pointed it out to me. We have the advertisement saved from the website also on April 21, 2009 5:03 PM offering the free tote!

The whole process was most time consuming. When I arrived I was told that the advertisement was in error and that I could not get a bag. I phoned my wife to notify her as well, we are more than disappointed … the whole thing is very phony on Disneys behalf and not legal. I think they should be ashamed … a company as large,and as rich, and as famous. You are Welshers! I am very angered that we were not able to get the reusable totes that we were entitled to after all the effort of saving cleaning and making the trek and all. We want our totes you claimed those who made the effort would be given.

The whole Water Bottle, Tote, scam in addition just doesn’t have any result other than exhibiting and leaving us with a Very Bad Taste! You should have spared the expense in the first place!

I actually wrote a complaint email to Disney as well and now I’m quite amazed at their auto-generated response:

“Thank you for your recent email.

We appreciate the fact that you took the time to convey your thoughts to
us. The Walt Disney Company prides itself in providing quality
entertainment and merchandise for all and we will continue to make every
effort towards achieving that goal.

We look forward to hearing from you in the future.”

Oh, and for those who don’t mind using type 7 plastic, I did a test and the bottle actually leaks. So yah… I really don’t know what this bottle is good for anymore..

ATTENTION EVERYONE

I traded three bottles for my free resusable bottle today, and realized the recycling code for it is #7— the Bisphenol A potential plastic. Bisphenol A is highly dangerous especially for infants, the Canadian government has already banned the import, sale, and advertisement on the polycarbonate baby bottles, so think twice before giving it to your kids.

I just emailed a complaint to Disney about the plastic 7 water they distributed today, and asked them to confirm whether their bottles contain BPA or not. My guess is that they do contain BPA and I told them how appalled I was that a major company like themselves would be distributing toxic water on Earth Day, ironically of all days, and that the water bottle is utterly useless to me and not even worthy of donating to the thrift store for re-use! I hope they don’t plead ignorance!

A number 7 plastic MAY or MAY NOT contain BPA. Essentially, #7 implies the plastic is composed of mutiple plastics — so it is possible BPA may be present. Seeing as no “BPA Free” sticker or logo appears on these bottles, it is anyone’s guess. Obviously everyone has a different opinion on BPA — but since I picked up these bottles with my kids as part of our “Earth Day, Every Day” activities, I intend to contact Disney *before* they get used. If BPA is present, then obviously like all other corporations, Disney will need to take action.

I’m not complaining about the person that posted the promotion. I actually do enjoy reading the blog and hearing about the freebies. I’m just disappointed at Disney for giving away bottles that other manufacturers chose to take off the shelves due to corporate responsibility

Faithn.....they're not "bottles they couldn't sell"....they have "Earth Day" printed right on it - it's an Earth Day promotion. And if you don't like it, don't get one. Free is free. Take it or leave it. Sheesh, some people are so picky!

I just came back from the store. It is a green water bottle and it’s while supplies last (they told me to get there early if I wanted one). The bottle is cute and all, until I turned it over. It’s made with #7 plastic = BPA. Uhh, no thanks Disney.
