Gmail Users: You Could Be Missing Imprortant Emails

GMailemails

GMail introduced a new inbox today, and you could be missing important emails (including updates from SmartCanucks) as a result.

When you log in, you will see your Primary Inbox (the mails that Google determine as important to you) but updates from sites you do want to see will be hidden in other tabs

  • Social includes when someone mentions you on facebook etc
  • Promotions include everything from save.ca emails to Checkout 51 offers and some emails from this blog
  • Updates include all of my private messages from SmartCanucks, my shipping notice from well.ca and many other important emails I do want to see in my inbox.
  • Forums include private messages and updates from various forums

You can tell  GMail that you want to see these emails in your Primary Inbox by dragging them or right clicking and choose move this item and choose a tab.  It will then ask you if you want to do this for all future items.  If you do not want to miss out on important emails, start dragging those emails now.  You can also choose to deselect all tabs (use the + button at the end of the tabs) to go back to your old inbox.

They are not really “hidden”, you can clearly see that those other tabs have some new emails.

The only problem I have with this is how it’s integrated on android (maybe IOS too) phone. I can’t seem to enable notification when I receive an email that goes in another tab.

You can, but if like me, you are checking on the go – no notifications for important emails means you could be missing out on things

wow this story is late by weeks. What do you mean introduced today? I’ve been using mine like this for almost a month.

It rolled out to all users today, I had it on my personal account but my work and spam accounts opened with it today

You can also get rid of the multiple inboxes completely and go back to the old unified inbox.

THANKS SO MUCH – I’ve been wanting to go back to the old version for a month and didn’t know how. I just clicked the + tab (which I would’ve thought was to add another tab), and unclicked the Promotions and Social tab, and voila, I’m back to my fav display.

Thanks – it’s a new feature for me (a couple of days) and I was forgetting to check the other tabs. I chose to go back to just the inbox.
