Since this incident, Ikea wants to work with consumers to help prevent furniture tip over incidents by giving away free Wall Attachment Kits for chests and drawers. You can have piece of mind about safety by securing your furniture to the walls with this kit and preventing the risk of home accidents. All you have to do is head over to Ikea’s website and fill out a short form to request a kit.

Two different kits are available depending on the products you purchased:

• Kit R1: for IKEA children’s chest/dresser taller than 23.5″ and/or an adult chest/dresser taller than 29.5″
• Kit R2: for STOCKHOLM, BUSUNGE, NORDLI chest, or STUVA series (25″ or 50″ height frames)

There are pictures available on Ikea’s website if you’re unsure which model you own. This kit is available for request through the US Ikea website, but you can request a free kit for Canadian addresses as well on this site. The site will allow you to make requests for multiple kits, which is great if you have a lot of furniture you wish to secure. Once you make a request for a kit, it’s should arrive within 2-3 weeks.
