It’s official: Rogers to bring iPhone to Canada later this year

Canadian wireless carrier Rogers Wireless said Tuesday it has reached an agreement with Apple to begin offering the iPhone later this year, putting an end to months of speculation on the subject.

We’re thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year,” the carrier said in a statement. “We can’t tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned.”

its a little late. most of us who really wanted an iphone already bought one and unlocked it a long time ago!
and i didn’t have to sign some crazy 3 year contract with Rogers!

The only advantage of Rogers supporting the iPhone is that you’ll be able to make use of the unlimited data plan and services on the iPhone.

I’m also guessing that Rogers will start off with the 3G iPhone which is expected to be released next month.

Since Fido belongs to Rogers, does this mean that Fido users will also be able to get the iPhone?

    Hi Tedy here,
Yes, you’ll be strangled in our 3 year Iphone Plan. Cost will be $600 with a 3 year contract. w/o Contract price is $1000. Unlimited plan will cost canadians a measly $80 a month and we’ll throw in 100 extra mins.

Oh 1 more note, we won’t be sending the 3g phone, only the old batch from apple’s 2007 inventory.

    Thanks

Yep, and data plans will cost an arm and an let.

    Thanks, CRTC.

wow finally LOL well I got my unlocked 8gig iPhone last year as a gift and still can’t get enough of it. The keyboard keys may be small but you’ll get use to it considering me having chubby fingers lol I wonder how this 3G iPhone is like. The iPhone is like a mini computer, it freezes, shuts down, crashes, etc. Thank God I know how to unlock them now. My iPhone has crashed about 3 times already so I had to restore it to its original version and unlock it again but I don’t mind doing it. I just love it…there are hidden features, let me know if u want to know =]

I am actually typing this comment from my iPhone!!! LOL

sorry the rogers iPhone will be a 3G version or did they mean 3gig iPhone??? I thought 3G was the version code or something cause i heard that Canada will be the ONLY country to have the 3G iPhone, supposedly it’s faster. I find mine to be quite fast. It’s just a bit heavier and u cannot make videos, only take pictures but there are applications you can install, as for the video application, u have to pay for it or else u get a 4seconds with no sound for free which is pointless. Again this is Bee commenting this from my iPhone

    Hi Teddy here..

Please wait until I make my pricing according to our standards. I’m certain we’ll charge extra $200 so with a 3 year contract it’ll cost you $600 :)

Data plan will cost you I think around $99 for unlimited everything.

Oh and you may have to turn in your blackberry or Palm as we want you to have just our services.

    Thanks Teddy

    :-)

There was an interesting comment a few posts up regarding whether or not Fido users will be able to get the iPhone. Anyone know?

unlikely. Fido gets all the crappy phones because rogers is trying to “phase them out” .. fido is more for the teens on pay-as-you-go or the in-case-of-emergency users.

thats why fido plans are always slightly crappier than rogers.

i wanted to get the blackberry pearl that Rogers had for my Fido account.. they wouldnt allow it.
I can’t see them allowing Fido uses to have Rogers Iphones either.

Considering they are the same company, i dont understand why they brand their phones like that.

    1str8mizz: 3G = 3rd generation mobile
gig is abbreviated as GB, not G.

On a side note, most people know how to unlock iphones with the cheap hyper sim, so there really is no need to be strapped down and pay a few hundred more with Rogers.

  12. 1str8mizz

1764 I agree, I even unlocked my own iPhone lol…paying 600$ for a 3 year contract and the monthly rate being about 100$ is immense. 1000$ for the iPhone without the contract. Wow I think I’d rather buy a laptop. I hate contracts more than anything, That’s the killer right there. So I’m happy with my iPhone with a Pay As You Go Rogers sim card. And the Plans aren’t that bad, they have Unlimited Evenings and Weekends-0.30$ per min during daytime for a minimum of a 20$ card purchase.

  13. Rick

I don’t know i prefer Fido, since they have “per-second” billing which does in fact make a HUGE difference.

I personally think if they distribute the iPhones through Fido and Rogers they will gain a much much larger market share.

And Fido will soon include Name Display for free for people who have Caller Display.

  14. 1764

    The new 3G iphone will be $199 for 8GB and $299 for 16GB !

@ Teddy, do you work for Rogers?
If the iPhone will indeed be $1000 w/o contract and $600 w/ 3 year contract, it is more ridiculous than ever.
