A couple of days ago, a man in Antigonish, N.S. was added to a growing list of customers who have found metal and harmful objects in potatoes they purchased from Loblaws Farmer’s Market brand and Strang’s Produce brand Russet Potatoes. The man found a nail in his potatoes, but this isn’t the strangest thing to be found in the potatoes thus far. Other customer’s have reported finding needles and metal objects over the past couple months from these two Atlantic Canadian potato brands.
The RCMP has an ongoing investigation on this matter, as they perceive that it may be the result of criminal tampering with the two brands’ produce. Loblaws has issued a recall on all of the following potato products to be either returned to the store or thrown away:
Farmer’s Market Potatoes:
- Potatoes Russet 15 lb/6.8kg, UPC: 061483014779
- Potatoes Russet 10lb/4.54kg, UPC: 061483014786
- Potatoes Russet 5lb/2.27kg, UPC: 061483005920

Strang’s Chef:

These potatoes have been distributed across Atlantic Canada, including New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and P.E.I. If you do find a piece of metal or any other tampering related object in your potatoes, do not throw it away. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency asks that you hold onto it and return it to your local police authority so that they may add it to their investigation.
