Does anyone know what the value of a P stamp is considered when you are mailing to the usa or international? Is it $0.85 or $1.00

  2. Michelle says:

It’s 85 cents. The $1 stamps are marked $1, the permanent stamps are marked with a P

  3. BHL says:

The P stamp is ALWAYS valued whatever the current domestic letter postage rate is. (Regardless how much you paid for the stamp).

Current domestic letter postage (as of April.1) is $1

Thus, your P stamp is valued at $1.

Mailing a letter to the USA is $1.20, so you will have to add 20cents postage in addition to the P stamp.

(Note: the 85c value is only what a $1 stamp will cost you if you buy them in bulk booklets or rolls… it has no bearing on the actual VALUE of the stamps themselves.)

  4. Sandra Y says:

If you are using older postage, say a 63 cent stamp, do you add extra postage to add up to 85 cents or $1?
I am sure some people had rolls or booklets of 63 cent stamps left. They would be kicking themselves if they now have to pay a 37 cent difference.

I work in an outlet so I’ll try to get answers to these questions for everyone today. It’s confusing for us too.

  6. BHL says:

I stand corrected from my earlier post…

The amount of POSTAGE to mail a letter in Canada is 85c.

The total VALUE of the stamps you put on the envelope has to add up to 85c

So… If you have 63c stamp, you need to add 22c to mail a letter. The total VALUE must equal 85c

A P stamp is valued at whatever the current domestic rate is… which today is 85c.
You can use a single P stamp to mail a letter within Canada… at any time… even if the rate goes up.

There is a ‘surcharge’ so to speak for buying a single stamp… making it $1

The incentive is that you should buy a book or roll of stamps and pay only 85c per stamp.

  7. Sandra Y says:

So if the cost to send a letter is 85 cents, you could buy 8 10 cent stamps and a 5 cent stamp(or some other combination that would add up to 85) to put on your letter, instead of purchasing a single $1 stamp? Sounds like if you can add and make the numbers add up to 85, you don’t have to buy the single $1 stamp.

    Unreal the prices of stamps.
