Thanks to momom for finding this great bonus points coupon for us!  I’m really starting to get into this Optimum points thing and I hope that I can be a Optimum Plus member sometime soon.

This coupon is for a bonus of 10000 Optimum points with a purchase of $50 for all Optimum Plus card holders, there are quite a few of you guys hanging out here on Smartcanucks showing us Optimum newbies the ropes.  It is valid until September 18 but it says it can’t be used in conjunction with any other bonus offer so I don’t think it will work with this weekends 20x points event.

I used a similar coupon last time during the “refer a friend” event. The point was not added to my account right away, nor did later. Then I called Customer Service, and the point was credited to my account. So, yeah, I believe this coupon could work with 20X. Doesn’t hurt to try anyway.

Never hurts to try it on the bonus day. It says they will be credited to your account by September 26 so keep an eye to make sure you get your points. It’s nice to know that customer service can fix it though.

Thanks for the tip. Do you know if this is for specific people only who receive the email or who are new Optimum Plus members? I received a set of coupons last month because I am Optimum Plus. They expired without me using any of them. I didn’t receive an email yet about this set of coupons though.

You need to be a plus member like Prue says but you can use the coupon in the link. Just print it, you don’t need one emailed to you.

I used the bonus coupon as well as getting the 20X the points last time also.

  6. Stephen

Well yes … of course I am a plus member. That’s why I find it odd that I didn’t get the email with the coupon in it like I did last month.

  7. Sarah

Wait, so let me see if I got this straight. Can anyone clarify for me please?

    1. You do not need to be a plus member to use this coupon? (I’m not a plus member yet)
    2. You can buy basically anything as long as it is over $50, say for example 1 $50 esso gift card?

  8. screamy

Sarah, if you are not a Plus member, you will not get the points, unfortunately. And there are all the usual exclusions — stamps, tobacco, gift cards, etc.

If you buy an SDM $50 GC *first* and swipe your Optimum card, you will get points for that; if you then pay with the SDM GC for your non-excluded items, you would get the 10,000 bonus points (if you were a Plus member).

Actually, that’s one way to quickly increase your total points and become a Plus member — always buy an SDM GC first, when you get in to the store, so it’s a separate transaction (sometimes the cashiers are funny about it, apparently — I myself have never had a problem). Then do your shopping and give them the GC to pay for your purchases on the way out. Voila, an extra 500 points (for $50) you would have “left on the table” otherwise. :) Hope that helps.

I used it with refer a friend event and DID get the points. Didn’t need to call or anything.
I used it again today with the 20x

Hey, that’s awesome…I’ve never had it work. I’ll try it though, I’d be delighted to be wrong! :)
