most stores would not let you use coupons for more then the product is worth.
    example– coupon for 1.00
    product– 97 cents
    ——
I have never seen a store let you do that

  2. M

It sounds like you are trying to trick/rip off the stores

  3. MP

Most coupons indicate that they include taxes. So yes they will let you use a coupon with an amount that is higher than the price, if the product is taxable.

Way to go on these bargains, mrsjanuary !

  4. mrsjanuary

rachael — i think it all depends on the cashier, really. sometimes they make me adjust the coupon, which is fine with me

M — i am not tricking anyone. but that’s nice of you to be concerned for their well-being.

  5. Keven

I rarely get deals like this, mainly because I rarely see all these magical “99 cent” sales for items I have coupons for. I did get that same Razor deal at Shoppers, but with tax I paid 85 cents.

  6. mrsjanuary

Kevin — 85 cents is a great deal. I have no problem paying tax for items that I don’t have FREE items for, but at the Shoppers near my house, they always rung them in as FREE coupons if the coupons were more than the price of the item. I’m not sure why, but I won’t complain about it! :)

  7. adora

Yesterday, the clerk at A&P wouldn’t even allow me to use 3 of the same $1 coupon for 3 bottles of $6.99 laundry detergent. She claims that “can not combine offers” means that you can’t use more than one coupon at once.
I heard that they have to do a lot of paperwork for the coupons. So some clerks will give you hard time so you don’t use them.
I also notice that they are more likely to let me use coupons when I dress nice, like when I wear work suit with make up and nice purse. When I shop with my casual clothes, they always give me hard time.

    Good haul

sometimes I wonder the time & efforts put into the “free” deal — is it really free?

I am glad I can survive without all the above, I think sometimes it’s sad that we get things because it’s free, not because we need it (and it happens to be free) :)

As for coupons — I have seen it both ways, sometimes free coupon means I pay nothing, sometimes I pay taxes

  9. Purple

Great job on the awesome deals!

Keep them coming, I love reading these! ^^

  10. FPolacco

I think this is just great. I too received two of the razors from Loblaws and the cashier suggested that she ring them in as two separate items just so that I could use both coupons at the same time and day. I got both razors for free and she did not charge me any taxes at all. I do have a lot of free item coupons and I think that it is a good chance for me to try out the item and if I don’t like it then I will not bother to buy it in the future. Works fine for me and for a lot of other people I know. We are still enjoying the free kraft cheese. It is pretty simple — we pay a lot of taxes on everything on a daily basis so, why should we not enjoy these little freebies that some companies choose to throw our way. I don’t see anything wrong with these coupons and as long as I receive them, I shall continue to use them and pass them on to others to enjoy. Keep up the good work of posting freebie coupons.

  11. Nisha

Which Shoppers is that which has Gillette Fusion Shave Gel on clearance??

  12. mrsjanuary

nisha, it was the shoppers in mississauga on 10th line. they’re all gone now though, i went back the day after i saw them with more coupons i found in my stash and there was none left. they went fast! :(

  13. Fred

Not to sound ignorant, but why is this in the blog and not in a thread?
I appreciate your saving tips but your hauls would be better fit in the threads,

  14. SuperstarIgnavious

Ita with Freddie as well. I do appreciate a good deal but these are not blog worthy.

  15. Sandy

I agree — and THANKS FOR DELETING MY COMMENT.

Censorship now? All because I said you were overly hyper about a freaking set of razors and cookie mix?

No one should be that excited about anything — that is creepy.

I’m sure many on here found your blog post as annoying as I did. If my free speech isn’t welcome here, then why don’t you just call this “SmartCommunists”

    Sheesh.

  16. Dean

I agree — I have too little time in my life to waste on reading some stay-at-home mom homemaker’s shopping list-of-the-week.

    Keep the blog DEALS.

  17. monctonmama

I agree, that these posts are more suited in the appropriate thread, not in this blog. All of these deals have been posted before, and I don’t understand why they are posted over and over again here??

  18. Skippy

First thanks for your efforts, however I agree with the other posters
about this blog not being the place for your own deals.

  19. Nika

While Im all for free speech, I do believe comments are removed if there completely nasty, and Mrs January cannot delete other posters posts. I dont think its fair to assume that shes a stay at home mom either, as far as Ive learned in the forum she doesnt have children, lets not stereotype. In that breath theres absolutely nothing wrong with being a stay at home mother either.
I think she probably gets the point lol!

  20. Meg1112

I have been looking for the trial size mr clean erasers. I have coupons for 1$ but I never see the 1 pack erasers.
I will have to keep looking:)
    Thanks

  21. Melanie Spraggett

I like these posts. I like knowing where to get these deals. Isn’t that what this site is about? Kepp up the good work Mrs.January.

  22. sarah

As i am free to speech too so first i like these deals here in the blog.ad next i have a great objection on stay-home mom thing.I m a stay home mom and i believe this is the best way to raise up the child.children are not for baby sitters. when they come home from school ‚who will be there to listen all their stories ?when mom come home from stressed job ‚how will she give attention to kids?thats the reason you see malls full with high school kids after 5 p.m.thats why they are close to friends more than the family.thats why they dont live with parents when they need them in elder life.I m not against to single mom working.but if the husband is making enough to needs, mom should not work.

  23. Josee

Well said Sarah… I agree, when we have kids that’s exactly the plan. You’re right, mom should raise the kids not the babysitter :)

    great deals mrs January!

  24. MissScrooge

^ “Mom” still remains to be a person — with goals and dreams. I’m not a mother, but mothers have every right to work if they choose to do so.

Who will listen to their stories? How about “Dad”? There’s no rule in the parent’s guidebook that says, “Dad goes to work, Mom stays home”.

I do believe that children should be cared for by their parents when they’re young — but once they start entering school, if both parents want to work, they should be allowed to.

As for the rest, my mom *was* a stay at home mom — but I was still at the mall after 5, I was close with my friends (that said, I’m just as close with my family) and I still moved out. In “elder life” comes responsibility — so for all those “elders” living in your parent’s basement, move out already.. lol.

On topic — thanks for the heads up on the deals Cassie :)

  25. baggypants

Okay…when Boo posted something other then deals…he got hammered for non-deals blogging.…when Mrs.January posts deals she gets hammmered for deal blogging.…

I’d say they are both SmartCanuck blogging ’cause they posted!!

  26. FPolacco

These deals have started a whole new discussion.

    1. “Stay at home moms” vs “stay at home dads”.
    2. “Stay at home moms” vs “working moms”

  27. willowsprite

I think next time I go shopping I’ll take a picture of everything and put it on here too.

  28. consumatrix

…there are as many different ways to parent (well) as there are families out there.

So kudos to stay-at-home moms and working moms (and dads in both categories) so long as they love and care for their kids. Both clearly can in their own ways.

And DOUBLE kudos if you can be both (stay-at-home or working) mom AND a deal diva. Keep posting.

  29. twin

Hey people, if you don’t care about super deals then don’t read mrs. january’s posts. I find it to be fun to read and wish I were getting the deals too.

  30. Moose

I think we assumed MrsJanuary has children because of all the Cottonelle baby wipes she got for cheap! :P

  31. Sally

I think there feminine wipes not baby wipes, these are quite popular these days. They came out around the time childrens ‘flushable’ wipes came out.

:) I think they have a warning on them though that there not for septic tanks.

  32. Nisha

He he.…I thought they are for pets as I saw a picture of a brown dog on it !!!

  33. sarabjit

Hey Sandy, Dean and Johnny, haven’t you ever heard of the saying “If you don’t have anything nice to say — don’ tsay anything at all” — or is that just too difficult a concept for people like you guys to comprehend?

Mrs. January — they’re all just jealous because they don’t know how to get deals like you do! Keep up the good work.

  34. Dean

I’m soooo jealous that I didn’t get a bunch of brownie mix. Oh my.

Like a previous poster suggested, this post was about as interesting as if I’d post photos of my shopping lode from Safeway. Care to see my pears I got on sale? Riiiight.

I come here to find deals — not to read someone’s “deal report” about deals most of which are long dead.

Shoppers Drug Mart had condoms a couple weeks ago for $1.99 a pack on clearance and Lindt 90% chocolate bars for $1.19, how would you like me posting those?

I’m guessing few would be interested, about as interested as I am in your vaginal wipes and cookie mix.

  35. consumatrix

    yaaaaaawn.

Dean, your rants are far more boring than mrs.jan’s posts.

  36. Fred

I think Dean’s point is well taken.
After the fact deal postings are NOT deals, and are only self serving!

  37. trrifk

Mrs January keep up the posts!!!
These are deals and are not all deals of the past. Mrs. January’s links to coupons have now gotten me some of the same coupons — toblerone, gillette razor and I was able to get the same deals!!
So Mrs. january keep posting and thanks for the info!!

I agree with sarabjit and have fred to add to her list.

  38. crissynfld
