The Future of Shoppers Drug Mart: Expanded Grocery Sections?

Forum member tictacoh recently shared some images of their local Shoppers Drug Mart, one of the ones expanded to have a larger grocery section including fresh food.

As you can see from some of the price tags, the grocery prices are on the higher side and most produce is sold by pack/per item weight.  Some of these items are available in many Shoppers Drug Mart stores, like the bacon shown, but with many new fresh items including specialty and organic products.

Would you shop at one of these Shoppers Drug Mart stores with an expanded grocery section?  I think it would be great for 20x Optimum days, I would earn so many more points if I could buy produce.  Even at higher prices, 20x would likely make up for it and could redeem for food we eat rather than boxed goods etc that are usually sold at Shoppers Drug Mart.

That’s great. Bringing in more food will help them get rid of those pesky medical products. If only there was a store we could buy groceries at….You know, like a grocery store!

shoppers needs to give it a rest with optimum points. Optimum points are annoying and non stop in your face. I’d rather not shop there because they ask me “Optimum card?” every single time. I’m not interested, I’m also not interested in spending $75 dollars there to get 10 free. give it a rest. Start using pc points and I’ll collect at shoppers. same company now right? duhhh

Love optimum points plan, only poinst plan that really matters to our family. Bonus redemptions allow us to get FREE diabetic supplies, without a drug plan of any sort this is a huge deal!

I think it’s fine – I sure would like it at our store. Last time I redeemed points, it was when we were without any income when my husband got injured, and we got only food – and it would have been nice to have gotten free produce!

My Shoppers has a small produce section, with not too bad prices, but I rarely buy full price, and love to buy on sale or clear out.

I agree with kerry, love to buy things on sale or clear out. I think the regular prices at SDM are on the high side, but will buy groceries there if they go on sale.
