Canadian Deals & Coupons

UFile

Tax season is upon us again and right now there is an offer available through Ufile.ca to save $5 off on filing your tax return online. This brings the price down to $10.95 for a single return. It’s $9 to add a spouse and any dependents are free.  In order to receive the discount make sure you use this link only.

Ufile also offers free tax returns if

  • Your family income is under $20,000
  • You are aged 60 years or older
  • You are a post secondary student

Otherwise it’s $19.99 for the actual software in store and you can file up to 8 returns with it.

Another option is to use StudioTax software which is free regardless of your income.

I usually use Ufile but I wasn’t paying almost $20 to get an $80 refund this year. I tried Studio Tax for free and it was processed in under a week. 🙂

I’m going to file mine electronically this year but I feel so dumb right now asking this question. When you use programs like studio tax, do they send it to the government for you or is there an extra step you have to take to send it to them? I remember getting something in the mail awhile ago about filing returns online and that they weren’t mailing out books, but I picked up a book to do it on paper first before punching things in online so I still have the option to mail. I just think it will be really expensive to mail this year since I have so many other extra things to mail in with it.

@roseofblack25: I used to fill in the forms by hand but last year the supporting paperwork would have been close on an inch thick to mail. Because of that, I decided to file electronically. I used TurboTax (which is more expensive than uFile). What TuboTax does (and I assume uFile does this too) is generate a file with a ‘.tax’ extension. You then go to the CRA website to upload it. My refund was processed and in my bank account in a week. I am never going back to paper again! The amount of time saved was more than worth the $30 I spent on software.

Thank you moom! I am still waiting on a final T4 from my seasonal job last year, but once I get that I can hopefully get this done and submitted and hope a refund is in my future.

Both Ufile and StudioTax let you choose to print or save the file. Then if you want to netfile, they will take you to the Revenue Canada site where you just follow the directions and attach your saved tax file. Quick and easy. 🙂

I told my bf to use this service. His taxes were very simple, just 1 T4 to enter. He entered everything exactly where it should be entered and received a letter in the mail today saying his assessment was wrong and re-calculated. He had a lot of errors! Be really careful using this service, they totally messed up his tax return!

@Amanda – i’ve never had a problem using ufile (and its predecessor companies) – been using them for years – in fact, they find me deductions i didn’t know about.

i saved $5 on the return plus an additional 25% off of that by using code X2U5KTF7VG after i followed the link listed above – put that code in the ‘promotions’ field and it will take the additional discount off! i only paid $16 for two returns!

just filed my returns, should have it back within a couple of days because it’s still so early in the tax season!

    @ DoodlesMom

Thanks for the code .. just used it and got extra discount (from 10.95) … they charged me something like 8 something (GST including).

Where did you get that code, by the way (or for example where can i get it, say, next year)? … I was doing Ufile now for 3 years (this was my 4th year) .. and never even knew of such codes, lol … — always was able to get 5 bucks off though (one way or another) .. and always paid 10.95 plus GST.

    Thanks again

  9. Michelle says:

did not work for me. I paid $27 for myself and hubby. 🙁 Oh well, I use it every year and have never had issues with CRA so I’m happy

  10. Mike says:

Try coupon code UF05DF1AXR for $5 off worked for me

  11. Mike says:

Seems it only lets you apply one coupon or the other i tried the $5 off plus the 25% off but it just reset the amount and took off the 25%. The $5 off is a greater amount so ill stick with that

  12. moe says:

H & R block gives you one file free. Then you pay $10 for 8 files. Much cheaper. Worth a quick try.

Gonna be recommending to all friends and family if it’s any good.

    Too bad for uFIle…

  13. Mary says:

Does any one know the bonus code to use for UFile, if you are over 60 years old. Both my husband and I are over 60.

  14. kerry says:

I filed for free with the free H&R Block software download.
