Value Village is great. Toy prices are outrageous at retail stores. You really think the kid cares whether that toy is brand new or used? Furniture, bikes, golf clubs, tennis rackets, skates, etc. etc. etc. You can't beat the prices. Retail store prices are so rediculously marked up the more I shop at VV the more angry I get with the big box stores.

Sara, I'd rather give $5 to the Diabetes foundation than give $20 to VV & have them give 50 cents of that to Diabetes. They pay by the bag, you know, not by what's in it.

Also, my grandfather, grandmother, & mother are all type 2 diabetic, & I'm borderline, yet I still won't shop there.
if you want to do something good for diabetic research, give the money directly to the cause, don't buy overpriced stuff at a store like VV

Once upon a time I really enjoyed going to VV Boutique. Now the prices are overall unreasonable/overpriced. I still go (rarely), and every now and then I find a unique item that I will shell out the price they are asking. Everyday clothing/items? I can get a much better deal elsewhere. I know that a portion of profits goes to Diabetes Association, but in my mind charging such a high / same as new price for used goods that are donated just doesn't seem right.

This organization means a lot to me and my family as they are associated with the JDRF!! My daughter is a type 1 diabetic and yes their prices may be a little high it is to donate for a CURE and obviously for their own well being! Just my 2 cents!!

Does anyone know if you get the discount if you don't yet have the card but have the printout? Or do they need to send you a card first or something

A few months ago when the store first opened in our area there were some great bargains. After that they jacked up their prices to about 30% more in average. Many household items I found much cheaper price and new compared to VV,like a hotplate at VV costs $25+ but I found a brand new one at amazon for $15.I visit VV much less now.

Ok, true enough that a lot of the crap is overpriced... BUT you can find hidden treasures there and I have bought a LOT of great things there including toys for my kids and clothes for the family:) Today I went at 7 am and bought a bridesmaid dress for my sister's wedding (with her blessing of course!) for $10 - half off $20! It was likely at least $100 dollars new if not much more! It will need some alteration and I will be "sprucing it up" with some additions like a great sash:) Plus I got a victoria secret sweater, a roots hoddy and an old navy t-shirt... all for $25! At full price I got my daughter a my little pony house for $2.99...

And by the way you do know that some of the money they make goes to the Diabetes Association right.............. my parents both have diabetes and it is a horrible disease! I don't mind spending my money there, being green and recycling and finding things I know are a steal:)

Just my 2 cents :D

some things are over priced while other things are great for someone on a tight budget.

I cant justify spending $20 on say a plain black tank top in big name stores when I can find the same thing for $5 at VV.

I agree--VV tends to be way overpriced. I have, on rare occasion, found something great for an equally great price. Usually the opposite! I saw decorative pillow covers there for $2.99 that I had originally seen for $1 at Dollarama. *sigh*

I completely agree with Julia & Mun

I was looking at the stuff behind the glass case in my local store (the 'expensive' stuff), & there was a Shirley Temple doll there for $500. a quick check on e-bay found hundreds of them for a buy-it-now price of $30

I've also seen sweaters with the tags still on them, with a lower original price than the VV price. & 2 pairs of jeans, same brand, same style, same size, same colour, one $10 more (& when I pointed it out to an employee, they tried to fix the price on the cheaper pair to match...)

I would rather buy new, at full price, than give VV one penny.
