Will Subway Canada Finally Place Cheese Properly on Sandwiches?

Posted by & filed under Other / Canada.

2 years ago I wrote a blog post complaining about the way cheese was placed on Subway sandwiches.

Subway Canada Cheese

According to the consumerist it seems like Subway in Australia has finally listened to its customers and starting on July 1st, 2010 cheese will be tessellated on sandwiches. Hopefully Subway Canada will start doing the same too! This is usually all I can think of when at Subway! The unnecessary cheese overlap and missing coverage .. Yep I’m a nerd :D

Finally!!! I always ask for shredded cheese for this very reason, lol

  2. babyhead

It’s so smart of you to ask for shredded cheese. I’ve eating my subway sandwiches with uneven distribution of cheese :(

  3. Justine

Subway isn’t too bad, Wendy’s on the other hand, cannot ever get the lettuce straight on the burger.

  4. harrlett

yes.….….….you did it!!!!! you made corporate america stand up and notice ways of error man!!!!!!!! haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I love it!!!! what is your next assignment??? lol

  5. Natalka

I totally agree with you and the ‘proper’ way to place the slices; when I make hoagies at home on a loaf of french bread, that’s how I place them.
However, if you ask for shredded cheese, then you get ‘real’ cheese!

  6. lalita1985

The subways I visit always put the cheese on in the way you described as ideal.…I’ve never seen it put on the other way!

Now, if only they would go back to the old method of cutting the bread. Remember when they used to do the top cut on the sub and place the meat and fixins’ on the inside? It was perfect! You could take a bit of your sub and the meat and fixings would actually stay between he bread.

I miss how they cut the bread too! I was told that if you ask them to cut it that way they will. I didn’t realize cheese placement was such an issue with sandwich buyers! I’ve never had a problem getting everything to work…but that’s just me! ;)

lol love it I have asked them to do that with the cheese before and they gave me this wired look so I have never asked again

  10. pink_panda

ehh? really? my subway always put the cheese in the “ideal way” for as long as i can remember. lol, i love the picture!

Shop at a different Subway. I always get my cheese like that.

  12. Emily

Now I really want a ham sub from subway with extra cheese *sigh*

  13. Shadyman

I’ve been getting tesselated cheese for a while now here in Ottawa. Occasionally, (rarely) though, you get Sandwich Artists who really couldn’t care less and just slap together a sub.

  14. Heather

I love what you wrote, thats too funny lol. Great way to get your point across, I dont eat subway, but i would think that they would put it on properly…

  15. Brenda

Noooo! Good GOD NO! It’s just not a Subway sub with the new cheese placement. Let’s just pray this doesn’t make it to Canada. :)

  16. missbobloblaw

Tessellated? ;) I learnt a new word today!

  17. Brock

LOL. So many picky people…who cares? It’s the same cheese and it’ll all end up in your big stomach either way.

  18. Eric

When I worked at Subway (in New Brunswick) I always tessellated the cheese. Anytime I get a sandwich, I ask for it to be done that way as well.

  19. ed

I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised somebody went through all that trouble just to change the placement of processed cheese slices on their sandwiches… don’t mess with people’s sandwiches!!!

  20. Jukes

If I gave you two sandwiches, one tessellated, the other not and had you take two bites from each sandwhich blindfolded, would you even notice the difference? I gather it won’t be long before some goober will complain about how the lettuce is not placed all facing lengthwise or the mayonnaise is not spread evenly. GOD, I just bit in the sandwich where there was 0.004g more mayo in one spot of the sub. Ahhhhhh…it’s like an unnecessary overlap of mayo. How sad one’s life is when you sweat out these little things.

  21. Natasha

I just really appreciate the cartoon pictures that go along with the argument for better cheese placement!

  22. rob

Thanks Brock. I might find this humorous if it was not on a site supposedly advertising deals and coupons, and if people were more concerned about relevant issues than they are about their cheese consumption.

  23. Ryan

I worked there for years through highschool (many years ago now) back when the ‘U guage” cut was done on the bread and cheese was alternated so it didnt overlap. I think it has more to do with the owners and training. As some stores do it and others dont. The old cut was much much better, but it took a bit longer to do, so it was cut out. Either way, just ask for it if thats how you want it. The person making your food is standing right in front of you.

  24. Karen

OMG…GET A LIFE!! If the way your cheese is placed on your sandwich is the biggest concern in your life & worth all this complaining about then lucky you. There are lots of people who don’t have the luxury of going out to eat or who can’t eat– they get their food through a tube. Others are struggling for their very life. I can’t believe the narrowmindedness of this article. Grow up, thank God that you can eat & get a life.

Squeaky Wheels Unite! Make the world a perfect place one whine at a time!

I you have never written a complaint/comment letter, it is for lack of observation.

I recently wrote one because one of my kids has a teacher who is very generous with homework. In particular with math. And that book is very heavy. So, why not make the book in 2 volumes as the likelyhood that they would need both volumes at once are would only happen over the course of a few weeks, suggested I. Surprisingly I did get a response about the second cover, index, possibility of loosing a book and copyrights… nobody takes into account the weight of these books multiplied by the number of kids moving them about. but sometimes someone can be the Tipping Point (Malcom Gladwell).

So Karen? What have you done to save the world this week?

  26. Subway Sub Maker

LOL> I just started working at subway.… I guess in a couple days I’ll have to change the way I just learned how to make them lol btw.. you know you can get our sandwich made ANY way YOU want… You don’t need to persuade others to join a group of unnecessary dairy overlap lol. I have a very shocking thing to tell you… did you know that we also overlap our meat??? Would you like us to but less of that on the sandwich to meet your needs? again, ITS ALL UP TO YOU. IT is YOUR WAY at SUBWAY… ROLMAO!

  27. Yury

Just went to Subway in Montreal and the poor dude, he knows nothing about proper cheese coverage. :(
    Hilarious comic though. :)
Shame to the ones who take it too seriously.
