I hope this means that Newmarket will get a Food Basics!

are we able to redeem airmiles at food basics when metro is gone?

    • FallenPixels says:

Likely not mk, it is only select stores and Food Basics is supposedly cheaper as they do not offer extras like Airmiles

Already happened in London this spring. At least one Metro converted to Food Basics which, given the area, makes much more sense. As expensive as Loblaws and Sobeys are, Metro’s prices were frequently higher. Not sure why Airmiles (in Ontario) isn’t available both at Metro and Food Basics but guessing it’s how the original contract was formulated.

Yes, here in London 1 Metro has been converted to Food Basics in the past 3 months or so. Another Metro was shuttered and is now owned is some Chinese owned supermarket outfit using temporary foreign workers from China. That sure helps the local unemployment picture. I was in the Byron Metro a few days ago and some of the workers seemed very upset. Now I know why. This store has been in Byron for 25 plus years. Sad.

I agree with Jen, hopefully Newmarket or Aurora will get a Foodbasics because there is one Metro in Aurora and THREE Metro’s in Newmarket.

    Bring on foodbasics!

I never like Metro anyways. Dominion was soooo much better, price and quality wise.

They need major change. A&P in my area used to be nice. Since Metro took over, they have bins of ramen in the middle of the shop like No Frills. Yet keeping expensive deli food. It’s like they don’t know what price point is.
Metro should focus on higher quality food and more varieties, while leaving Food Basic for the more affordable basic options. They need to sort out their customers!
