Canadian Recall: Shrek Glasses Recall Now In Canada

Posted by & filed under Announcements.

mcdonalds

McDonald’s in the United States first  recalled Shrek glasses and now Canadian McDonald’s have followed. The recall is because of the cadmium in the paint. No word yet as to if there will be a refund for the $1.99 that consumers paid for these limited edition glasses but it is best that you stop using yours right away. I was sorry to read this as I thought they would be great to collect.

Thanks to TaraF for first posting this information and to Lynn49 for adding the information on the Canadian recall.

I hope someone makes some good parodies of the commercials after this recall. You know, ‘flip the glass this way and everybody is smiling then flip the glass the other way and they’re freaking out CAUSE THEY KNOW THEY’RE TOXIC.’ Those commercials really got on my nerves.

  2. honeydoo

their ‘food’ is full of garbage, no surprise here..

  3. Prairie girl

Oh no! My DH got one for my son. Thanks for posting!

  4. Eric

They will be issuing refunds for this, more information will soon appear on mcdonalds.ca.

We actually got both of our kids a complete set. This kinda sucks.

  5. Dietfrog

i was so excited I got the whole set. Now i have to give them back :(
I bet they will not make another set either!

  6. Fritz

I *just* got one yesterday for Mini-Me. Hand washed it and poured his milk into it. Grr!

  7. Mencho

Any word on if the older glasses have been tested? I have one from Shrek 3 and also 2 Olympic ones.

  8. kris10

i was just gonna ask if u could return them.my sister said you could though? not sure…my daughter loves shrek and loved the glasses, what a shame.

  9. kingy

if you want them as collectors items, it will probably be better if you don’t return them, as long as you dont plan on using them.

  10. Eric

Mencho — as far as I’ve read the 2007 glasses are ok.
Kris10 — more info in terms of returning and refunds should be available around June 8

info for both I got from the US CPSC website

People…do you want this tainted product problem to end?? Buy American, Buy Canadian. But then most of you wouldn’t buy a $10 Happy Meal. Even knowing that your children won’t get poisoned…aside from the damage from eating the Happy Meal itself. The explosion of all those dollar stores show how cheap people are. So it’s all you that are driving the demand for organization to settle for cheap and possibly unsafe products.

The fault is not with the companies or countries that makes the stuff.
    The fault lies with us.

Walmart pulls cadmium-tainted kids’ jewelry it knowingly sold for months
    http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ondeadline/post/2010/05/walmart-pulls-cadmium-tainted-kids-jewelry-it-knowingly-sold-for-months/1

Walmart has pulled its Miley Cyrus line of children’s jewelry following an Associated Press report that the world’s largest retailer had been knowingly selling charm bracelets and necklaces contaminated with high levels of the toxic heavy metal cadmium.”

  13. meems

Big surprise! Just one more reason for my family to not do business with McDonald’s.

  14. AryanasMommy

Wow its sad that a large company like Walmart, that alot of families trust, would knowingly sell things that could harm our children. I guess just as the saying goes “Never Trust Anybody”

  15. kris10

Well my parents bought them for her .… everything seems to be tainted somehow these days no matter if you are cheap or not. You can’t even use plastic anything either. Why don’t we all just go back to preparing our own foods (every meal) every day then? WHy don’t we make our own medicine to?and every other store bought item? The motrin medicines were recently recalled. In this day in age it isn’t practical because women also have to work and good luck getting a man to do that and work.

Just like everything causes cancer. We are all gonna leave the world one day,if it is meant to happen then it will happen. Pretty sure people have been useing some of these materials a very long time. The paint thing seems more serious to me though because you are drinking from it directly.

Anyway i heard ( not sure if it is true) that it wouldn’t be good to keep them as a collectors item (unless u wear gloves everytime you touch them) because you are touching the paint which is where the problem truely lies and it will seep into your skin that way.

  16. Heather

It doesn’t surprise me that a large corporation would sell harmful products. They know they buy cheap, in the end they still make the dollar, its not going to affect walmart one bit.
The paint is apparently toxic enough you need gloves? The parents and everyone who bought them should be sueing them then, theres no way the paint should be that hazardous!!

  17. CP

There you go.…another blight in modern society. Sue, sue, sue them!!! Apparently, the answer to everything. Hell, return them for your money back if you really feel the need or just pitch the damn things. All the time spent worrying about this is time stolen from your life you will never get back. Not worth the hassle.

  18. Justine

@ Heather — I am sure it wasn’t their intent to put out glasses that were harmful to people. Of course they buy them cheap, this is Mcdonalds we are talking about. As for suing them, just throw them out or return them.… and maybe don’t buy glasses from places like Mcdonalds again?

Walmart Pendants Recalled As Disney Bans Cadmium
    http://cbs13.com/national/walmart.cadium.jewelry.2.1458482.html

Federal consumer safety regulators on Friday announced the recall of “The Princess and The Frog” pendants sold at Walmart stores because of high levels of the toxic metal cadmium, an unprecedented action that reflects concerns of an emerging threat in children jewelry.

The recall affects two products, about 55,000 items in total, sold exclusively by the world’s biggest retailer for $5 each…”

Lead poisoning is very serious. It occurs in children mostly due to the lead that’s in paint. which has been banned here to my knowledge. I know first hand how bad just a little exposure is. they always thought i was “allergic” to paint. If I got a whiff of it, I became very ill. Not all paint bothered me, but the stuff used in school’s was bad. they were painting the hall by the gym, and i told the teacher, i can’t go thru there, i’m allergic. he made me go anyway, said i’d only be in the hall for a minute. no i couldn’t hold my breath that long. and i was off the rest of the week nauseated, dizzy and felt like death.

here’s an excerpt about the amt of lead that can affect you:

Although lead poisoning is one of the oldest known work and environmental hazards, the modern understanding of the small amount of lead necessary to cause harm did not come about until the latter half of the 20th century. No safe threshold for lead exposure has been discovered—that is, there is no known amount of lead that is too small to cause the body harm.

and more info can be found here:

1 day old TP2 and having some adjustment shock. I will seem completely thru this website, nevertheless it is so unique from my q and my palm 800 which have been both largely the very same. At this time the only thing I really fully grasp is ways to access world-wide-web ( which is why I bought it ) Producing calls recieving messages is tougher, moving photos to TP@ so I can use it being a viewer seems extremely hard. I can move them but i want them to be quickly found on the device. Mastering curve I hope is all.

Hey just wanted to give your team a quick heads up and let your website know a few of the pictures aren’t loading properly. I”m not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I’ve tried it in two different browsers and both show the same results.’, 19),

I’d really like to be a part of community where I can get advice from other knowledgeable individuals that share the same interest. If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Would you advise starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely confused .. Any tips? Kudos!
