On the third Monday in February, most provinces across Canada will be celebrating various statutory holidays. Whether it’s your Family Day (Ontario, Saskatchewan, B.C. and Alberta), Louis Riel Day (Manitoba), Islander Day (P.E.I.), or Nova Scotia Heritage Day (Nova Scotia, obviously), you’ll most likely be getting the day off school and work, and what better way to spend a day off then by checking out free events with your friends and family?
Here’s a round-up of some of the events going on in your region, but this list is by no means conclusive. If we’ve missed something going on in your region, please comment and let other readers know what freebies they could be missing out on!
British Columbia (Monday, February 13th – TODAY)
- City of Richmond: FREE pancake breakfast, 9am-10:30am, must register beforehand, Monday, February 13th

Nova Scotia (Monday, February 20th)
- Pier 21 Drumming Event (free with museum admission), Saturday, February 18th 1-3pm
- FREE admission to Museum of Natural History and Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Monday, February 20th *note: this is yet to be confirmed by the museums, but they were free last Nova Scotia Heritage Day
- FREE skating at the Halifax Oval, this is free everyday
Ontario (Monday, February 20th)

- Kitchener: FREE skating at the Aud (9am-3:30pm), all weekend
