Disney Earth Day Canada

BUMP! Today’s the day! Happy Earth Day :D

Also it turns out in Canada we get reusable bottle not tote bag. Read comments for updates and more details.

Thanks Miss_April for posting this fabulous freebie in the Canadian Freebies & Samples section :D

Get a free Mickey Tote Bag from The Disney Stores all across Canada on Earth Day April 22nd, 2009. To get your free tote bag you need to bring in 3 plastic bottles to any Disney Store Canada and receive your free gift.

The irony here is that you need 3 plastic bottles or you don’t get a free gift so if you’re already environment friendly and have stopped using plastic bottles a while ago you’ll need to buy 3 bottles to get the freebie :P

You dont need to buy anything.
Simply snap up 3 usedbottles from a recycle bin and turn them into the Disney store. If you snap the bottles from the food court in the same mall, chance are they are going back to the same place anyway.

Regardless, the end result for the bottle is the same… they are still going to get recycled. And you walk away with your free bag.

Costs me more to drive to a Disney store, fight the crowd, line up to trade in

Sobeys has a Buy One Get One Free tote bags now (so $1 gets you 2 bags -> 50 cents per bag).

Starting Apr 22, RCSS/Zehrs will charge 5 cents per plastic bag
    Sobeys start on May 1

Chill, it’s a nice freebie they’re offering to people. Wouldn’t cost you Jerry if you rode the bike, which would be even more environmental on earth day especially. Or took the bus, which in a sense you are paying for (unless you have a pass or something) but good for the environment since it’s a form of public transportation.

    ^^ Hurumi
    I totally agree.
The tote bag looks nice…I will remember to shop that day =3

  5. winue

Wouldn’t it make more sense for them to say…

bring in 3 plastic BAGS and get a free reusable tote???

  6. Vicky

I’m assuming this is a “limit one per customer” thing? I’ve looked for fine print on that link, but all I can find is “while supplies last”.

  7. Denise

If anyone can get an extra , I would happy to pay for shipping, i would LOVE to get my hands on a bag but the closest Disney store is over an hour away.

    Thanks

Please be aware — I checked with Disney Stores in the GTA, and it is NOT a bag that’s the gift. It’s a small green reusuable bottle with mickey on it.

  9. Samantha

Ya… i went to a disney store today and they said that it was a free reusable water bottle.…and that bag you had to pay for it

  10. lis

Hi, i actually called today and turns out it’s not tote bag we get. We get reusable bottle, only the usa disney stores get tote bag :(

  11. Jerry

I live in Windsor ON and I called a US store and they are giving out the bottles to.

  12. PotatoHead

I just came back from the store. It is a green water bottle and it’s while supplies last (they told me to get there early if I wanted one). The bottle is cute and all, until I turned it over. It’s made with #7 plastic = BPA. Uhh, no thanks Disney.

  13. nsangel

so now pt in me trying to go there after supper then. too bad.

  14. Faithn

I agree.. I went there this morning and was so disappointed. What kind of promotion is this.. giving away water bottles that they couldn’t sell because it’s leaking chemicals… BOO to Disney!

  15. benji

    Got my free bottle! Yay!

I bought the tote too, cause it’s cute — $3.50.

  16. benji

Faithn.….they’re not “bottles they couldn’t sell”.…they have “Earth Day” printed right on it — it’s an Earth Day promotion. And if you don’t like it, don’t get one. Free is free. Take it or leave it.

Sheesh, some people are so picky!

  17. Faithn

I’m not complaining about the person that posted the promotion. I actually do enjoy reading the blog and hearing about the freebies. I’m just disappointed at Disney for giving away bottles that other manufacturers chose to take off the shelves due to corporate responsibility

  18. Bird

A number 7 plastic MAY or MAY NOT contain BPA. Essentially, #7 implies the plastic is composed of mutiple plastics — so it is possible BPA may be present. Seeing as no “BPA Free” sticker or logo appears on these bottles, it is anyone’s guess. Obviously everyone has a different opinion on BPA — but since I picked up these bottles with my kids as part of our “Earth Day, Every Day” activities, I intend to contact Disney *before* they get used. If BPA is present, then obviously like all other corporations, Disney will need to take action.

  19. Marmaduke

Oh.…poo 500 given out all gone by 1:00, and it was bottles.….darn!

  20. Lily

I just emailed a complaint to Disney about the plastic 7 water they distributed today, and asked them to confirm whether their bottles contain BPA or not. My guess is that they do contain BPA and I told them how appalled I was that a major company like themselves would be distributing toxic water on Earth Day, ironically of all days, and that the water bottle is utterly useless to me and not even worthy of donating to the thrift store for re-use! I hope they don’t plead ignorance!

  21. Alice

    ATTENTION EVERYONE

I traded three bottles for my free resusable bottle today, and realized the recycling code for it is #7— the Bisphenol A potential plastic. Bisphenol A is highly dangerous especially for infants, the Canadian government has already banned the import, sale, and advertisement on the polycarbonate baby bottles, so think twice before giving it to your kids.

  22. Faithn

I actually wrote a complaint email to Disney as well and now I’m quite amazed at their auto-generated response:

Thank you for your recent email.

We appreciate the fact that you took the time to convey your thoughts to
us. The Walt Disney Company prides itself in providing quality
entertainment and merchandise for all and we will continue to make every
    effort towards achieving that goal.

We look forward to hearing from you in the future.”

Oh, and for those who don’t mind using type 7 plastic, I did a test and the bottle actually leaks. So yah… I really don’t know what this bottle is good for anymore..

Yesterday I went in to the Disney Store in Barrie, Ontario Canada at the Georgian Mall Location, after making the special trip from home to Barrie, and the effort to save, clean, and take in three empty bottles to get my free Mickey Mouse Earth Day Tote Bag which was offered for doing this. The site was on the web for over a week because it was my wife that pointed it out to me. We have the advertisement saved from the website also on April 21, 2009 5:03 PM offering the free tote!

The whole process was most time consuming. When I arrived I was told that the advertisement was in error and that I could not get a bag. I phoned my wife to notify her as well, we are more than disappointed … the whole thing is very phony on Disneys behalf and not legal. I think they should be ashamed … a company as large, and as rich, and as famous. You are Welshers! I am very angered that we were not able to get the reusable totes that we were entitled to after all the effort of saving cleaning and making the trek and all. We want our totes you claimed those who made the effort would be given.

The whole Water Bottle, Tote, scam in addition just doesn’t have any result other than exhibiting and leaving us with a Very Bad Taste! You should have spared the expense in the first place!

  24. Kathy

I contacted Disney about the bottles and this is the reply I got back from them:

Dear Kathy, We are delighted to have received your recent email and we appreciate your interest in DisneyShopping.com. Unfortunately we are unable to provide that information about the water bottle. Please contact your local Disney Store and a Cast Member should be able to better assist youwith that information. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further questions. We look forward to future opportunities to be of service to you. Have a Magical Day! Sincerely, StephanieThe DisneyShopping.com Team

I GUESS I WILL CALL THEM AND SEE WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY !!! NOT REALLY EXPECTING ANYTHING !

  25. Kathy

I just called the Disney Store at Limeridge Mall. According to Lindsay there who read to me a memo they received. She said the bottles are BPA free. They have to stamp the 7 on them because the top is made with one type of plastic and the bottom with another type. If ever they are to be recycled they must be done separately.

  26. Lillian S

Would somebody please tell Miss April that nothing is ever free in this world anymore.…..I visited my local Disney Store and was advised that they had no interest in my 3 plastic bottles (what are we supposed to do with these, she asked me) and you had to make a “minimun purchase” to get the freebie.…Store appeared to be runned by a couple of 17 year old students who did not have a clue about anything!!! (my girlfriend also experienced a similar reply at another Disney Store.….They had nothing free…
