I got this email from Future Shop and I thought I’d post it even if it doesn’t say exactly what’s on sale. I guess this is Future Shop’s strategy to try to get customers in the store. If you’re passing by a store, or you work in a mall with one, then drop by and let us know, will ya? Thanks a lot!

After the Dyson fiasco last weekend, no way in heck am I wasting my time with Failshop.

George (or anyone else that might know) — what was the Dyson fiasco?

I work for Future Shop and Thursday is our VIP day! We have special permission from the powers that be to make amazing deals to our customers on open box merchandise to get it out the door before Christmas! Treat a loved one or yourself and come in and check out the deals! If you are in the Windsor area, ask for Courteney! :)

The Dyson fiasco was, in the email adverts and online site, it listed the Dyson DC14 (correct model I think?) for $299. When you went to the product page, the item was listed as $499. As usual, it said that the price would be adjusted in the cart. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

I purchased one myself and had to call in about it. After about 20 mins or so waiting, the rep told me it was a known problem and to go ahead with the order. The billing dept would automatically adjust the payment, and if not, I could call back the next day for the adjustment.

The rep was very friendly and I felt they handled it pretty well. Turns out no adjustment was necessary on my order. After I got off the phone with the rep, I re-did the entire order and the correct price of $299 showed up in the cart. Placed the order, and received a shipping notice in my email yesterday.

I was just afraid that Futureshop was going to backtrack and say that the advert was incorrect.

The fiasco is that while waiting on the phone to talk to Customer Service to inquire whether the item was actually on sale, and when they finally said go through with the order anyway and it will be adjusted, the item was sold out everywhere.

It’s a little disappointing if you were intending to buy the vacuum.

… And yet you were still able to order it after getting off the phone with them.… So they weren’t really sold out…

  7. George

M., do you not understand what I wrote? It was sold out. I was not able to get the deal.

  8. George

To clarify, the item was in my cart, but that doesn’t “hold” the item for you until you actually checkout. So by the time I went to checkout, the item was sold out.

I understand exactly what you wrote. Are you aware of what you wrote? You said you got a shipping confirmation.

Yes, that appears to be the confusion. I though you and Ritchi3 were the same person. My apologies.

I think many Canadian retailers especially in Ontario that I know of are trying to compete with the US Black Friday sales. So instead of running over the borders shopping why not wait what’s coming up on sale this week. Besides,I read that most Black Friday sales either carry on through December or right after Christmas. It’s a good way to avoid traffic jam at the border or overcrowding at the US malls.

I went to Future Shop, there is nothing exciting. They had a one page photocopied paper flyer. The most you get is $200 off a home theatre system. Sears had the better sale, but there are only so many TVs a person can watch or buy. I am waiting for Boxing Day to find the real deals.
