How To Increase Your Klout Score To Get More Perks

klout

We often get asked on the forums how users can increase their klout score to be eligible for Canadian perks when they come up.  Your eligibility for perks is based on a number of factors, some you can change (klout score, topics etc) and some you can’t (like demographics).  So you won’t be able to get every single perk no matter how high your klout score.  These are just the very basics for beginners.  There is a forum thread here with lots more tips.

Get Connected

Klout measures your influence on social networks, if it can’t see what you are doing, it can’t reward you with a higher klout score.  Connect your social media accounts – but be aware of what access you are giving them, I have noticed recently that even some of my facebook posts in private groups show as increasing my score.  While that is not publicly shown on my klout page, it does mean klout has access.

Be Friendly

Every time a friend likes, shares, retweets your posts, it helps your score.  Every time they tag you in a picture or mention you, it helps your score.  It can be as simple as tagging someone with @John Smith when replying on facebook rather than just John.  Try to post only stuff that people will like – 100 likes or retweets of 10 posts will help your score much more than 100 likes over 100 posts, but don’t spam people for retweets etc, it has methods in place to recognize these.  This has the biggest impact on your score.  All interactions will help, but when someone with a higher Klout score mentions you, it helps more.

Add The Right Topics

Choose your topics wisely, think what companies will be looking for when offering a perk.  If it is a food item, Food & Drink or Cooking may be good items to have.   If you are just starting out, cover your bases with Food, Drink, Health, Family, Lifestyle, Skin Care, Klout, Beauty, and others that suit your interested.  You can add these on your main page (click Profile – Topics – Add a Topic).

Increase Your Topic Influence

People can give you +K in topics by clicking on your profile.  This helps increase your overall score, but also shows the companies offering perks that you are actually interested in those topics so makes you more likely to receive perks requiring them.  You can share on social networks when you give +K and when you have received it, these mentions help your overall score too.  You only get 5 +K per day, and you need to wait until people have given you +K back to give more (up to a maximum of 10 +K at a time.
