If you are a student, with a valid email address from a college or university, and enrolled in a minimum of 0.5 credits this term, you can take advantage of this cool offer. Eligible students can purchase the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade (this is a digital copy) (32-bit or 64-bit) for $39.99. Please check if your school is eligible here.

The upgrade is listed under “additional products” on the left hand side of the website that I have provided before. To purchase it, you need to click “buy now” on the main page and submit a valid email address. After that you will be sent a link where you can purchase the Ultimate Steal products, including the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade.

Is this legitimate? If it is this is a great deal! I was looking to upgrade but with the cost of tuition there is no way I could ever afford to. Has anyone tried this yet? If so any feedback would be greatly appreciated =)
    Thanks!

I bought student versions when i was a part-time student. the only difference is that they are not eligible for upgrades. still its an amazing deal. i’ve never done it online, but going through the college bookstore i just had to provide my student number. i don’t know how they can verify enrollment, but maybe the online system is different.

just a note, if you go to the microsoft website, there is a tool you can download to make sure that your computer is ready for windows 7. if it’s not it will tell you what u need to do so, or will recommend you buy a new computer. my computer is running windows xp, and it says before you download the tool, that trying to upgrade from windows xp to win 7 is NOT RECOMMENDED and should only be attempted by a technician. you can buy a new computer on windows vista and upgrade to win7 free as well, the site lets u know how to do that as well.

This is totally legit, its been on the mircrosoft website for a few months now, but you do need to meet qualifications to recieve it.

I bought a lappy in July and ordered my win 7 through that for freeeeeeee.

Im excited to try since I’ve heard good things.

  5. Curtis

Awesome! Thanks Sally! I’m pretty sure I meet the requirements and will try this out when I get home =)
I’ll report back on how it worked out when I’m done.

I currently use Windows Vista Ultimate.. I wonder if I can upgrade to Win7 Professional (instead of Ultimate)? I am not using any of the Ultimate features like bitlocker, etc.

I’ve done this 2 years ago for the Office 2007 upgrade, it’s 100% legit! I checked last week and it wasn’t available (only in UK and US), but I’m so glad we finally have it in Canada! Perks for being a student (kinda). :) Once you pay, they’ll send you an e-mail to your school E-mail addy and you can click on the link from the E-mail to start downloading (you’ll need to pay like $8 to get them to send you a disc) or I just download and burn it out using Nero. The key will be provided in the Email. :) Enjoy

Just a follow up on RK’s comment on upgrade to Windows 7 Professional. What you said is true only if you want to preserve all your data. There is a custom option which will allow you to manually upgrade from any version of Windows Vista to Any Version of Windows 7.Of course, you have to take care of the backup and reinstallation youself. Just read the link carefully. I am an IT guy, so I know what I am talking about. Just to clarify so you have no hesitation to buy this version. It is a steal if you qualify. My wife is doing her PhD from U of T. I am going to get a copy for us.

By the Way, on the Same website, you can also get a full version of Office Ultimate 2007 (the most complete version office 2007 ever) for less than 10% of the retail value ($680.00 for the full version, $540 for upgrade version) at $64.00. I normally recommend people to get Open Office, since it’s free and compatible with office 2007. But with this price, I will no doubt recommend anyone who qualifies to get a copy.

If you have been to a university in the US and still have your email address, you get a better deal for the upgrade for only $30USD = $32CAD approx. Also, I was able to pay with a Canadian credit card without a problem.(just leave the country part of the credit card details as US but the rest of your address should match your billing address)

I am an engineering student at Carleton, and through Carleton’s MSDNAA website, I was able to get 4 Win 7 Pro x64 keys and 4 Win 7 Pro x86 keys plus the downloads for free. If you are a university student, I suggest you check and see if your school is an MSDN partner. If so, you may not have to pay anything for a full, legit, updatable copy of Pro! But if you don’t qualify, maybe a friend of yours does.

    Cheers!

@ CarletonU — yup, UWaterloo has this too, just show your ID and you can get lots of software for free.

On June 3rd last I bought a Toshiba laptop set up with Vista.I had heard that problems with customer acceptance of Vista were quite frequent but the Future Shop Courtenay BC assured me that when Windows 7 came on line, I could dump vista and replace it at no cost. I’ve now been told by the store management that this would only apply to units purchased after June 25 2009. My purchase date was June 3.
I’m quite unhappy with Vista and if I’d known then what Future Shop management now says is the case I wouldn’t have made the purchase.I’m pretty unhappy with Future Shop for a number of reasons but this turns me right off. will Microsoft stand behind their commitment?? John H.

John Howard…don’t let it end there.…when a business ticks me off by not providing what they said they would, or somehow is “screwing” me…I go straight to the top. I do a little searching on the internet and find out the president’s name and send HIM an email. Normally those people see the “big” picture and will do something about it rather than pissing off a valued customer. I had an issue with Primus long distance and after not getting anywhere with customer service on the phone and with the SUPERVISOR of customer service, I emailed the president and got an email back (not from him, but a manager) saying they would “be happy to credit my account”.

Don’t back down. Companies need to retain customers in this economy. If you get bad service etc..you tell two friends, and they tell two friends…etc… so they lose more than one customer.

Sorry for babbling, I just hate getting ripped off! Good luck!

Just got my Win 7 Pro upgrade to rid of the Vista atrocity! Had minor trouble with activation but Microsoft Tech support (once i got to them) were VERY helpful. They even call me back as soon as my desktop restarted to make sure it all works and email me the exact conversation we had and instructions to fix the activation error if it ever happens again!

I was impressed by the customer service and so far extremely impressed by Win 7 OS !!! I piss on all mac users.… windows is back baby!

  16. Ben

I registered my email and got the reply for the $39 version, but logged onto the site today and it’s gone up to $95! It seems to go up and down in price, so i’ll keep checking and see. i already got one version for my wife’s aging laptop, and you can do a clean install rather than the upgrade, with no activation problems, and it works loads better than vista.

Just keep an eye on the price — they keep changing it!

Anyone know if the digital copy that you get can be burned onto a disk and then booted from?

I just put together a friend’s computer and was wondering if this would work as his stand-alone operating system.

  18. Mike

My Wife wanted to put Microsoft Office on her computer. The school had a deal from Microsoft that she could get it for around $11 I did everything it wanted me to do. I signed in put in the code that her school gave her and then couldn’t get past the page that says to pay. I tried about 5 times.
finally it got past but the thing said she was not eligible. I guess I have to get her to go back to the school and find out what went wrong or is there something I can do here. I still have the pass number the school gave her. Any suggestions?

hello there and thank you on your information ?
I have definitely picked up something new from proper here.

I did alternatively expertise a few technical points the usage
of this site, since I skilled to reload the web site many occasions previous to I may just get it to load correctly.
I have been brooding about in case your hosting is OK?
Not that I am complaining, but sluggish loading instances times will often
impact your placement in google and could damage your high-quality rating if ads and marketing with Adwords.
Well I am adding this RSS to my e-mail and could glance out for much extra
of your respective interesting content. Make sure you update this again very soon.
