I have a Contest with the people in my class going. It’s like the hockey draft but pick your top three cities (without looking at the leader board first) and your one Canadian city as an extra. Then on March first when the new Monopoly Game comes out, the person who’s cities are worth the most on the Monopoly board will win the top prize.

So feel free to vote up my top picks 😉
    Toronto, Tokyo, Paris, New york

  5. Cathy says:

I nominated Ottawa. I’m slightly surprised that it wasn’t already on there.

  6. Sean says:

Vote for Winnipeg!!! Winnipeg is currently #3 in the wildcard race only the top two get in!!!

  7. Ian says:

I will vote Winnipeg, Van, Mtl, whatever – any place *except* Toronto!

  8. Glen says:

    Wooooooo Toronto!

  9. M@rtin says:

As of now, Montreal is “Park Place”, #2 just behind Paris! 🙂 Vancouver is doing good too. Toronto is struggeling to stay on the board. Good luck & keep voting! 🙂

  10. matt says:

Tell your friends – and vote every day for Toronto – quite possible it will NOT do it without more publicity!

Now it is only 19th and only first 20 cities will be included – Montreal goes very well, Vancouver also, but toronto… wake up!!!

  11. Stinky says:

If anyone want to join the facebook group for Toronto follow this link:

  12. Terry Mulvey says:

Why Toronto (the centre of the universe).
Why Montreal (is it really part of Canada)
Why Vancouver (does it want to be a part of Canada)

    I vote for Winnipeg

  13. matt says:

This is what I do not understand – Ian’s writing: I will vote Winnipeg, Van, Mtl, whatever – any place *except* Toronto! – such stupid (sorry) statement and what’s more gratitude hate versus toronto

I know it from my country – here also everyone hates another – and the result is pitiful – just try insted to support what is in YOUR OWN INTEREST – that is promote whatever is Canadian!

Guess what.. who pays quite great part of taxes for other cities and provinces… who generates dollars from tourism?

Do not underestimate such powerengines that leads other in each country, like Toronto!

You’ve got 10 cities to choose from the main list!

  14. Pardeep says:

    I vote for Vancover

all the rest on the canadian cities suck LoL

  15. Nominate Winnipeg MB, its already Number 3 in the wild card vote!!

  16. matt says:

    Toronto is only 17th

  17. Álex says:

    HI,

    I’m from Madrid.

I find it SCANADALOUS on what you are doing with canadian cities. WHO CAN BELIEVE THAT MONTREAL IS BETTER THAN ROME, NEW YORK, LONDON OR PARIS? It’s just stupid, unbelieveable! What do you pretend? It’s so horrible to see how you’ve maid campaign for a normal-without-interest city such Montreal just for being canadian, or Vancouver or Boston… I hope that Monopoly enterprise will have all the common sense that you really don’t have to put Montreal in the 15th position maximum or anywhere, and take the other canadian cities which undoubtably don’t deserve to appear on that list…

    BE HONEST, PLEASE.

  18. Glen says:

The contest is not over yet. Well see what happens in 24 days.

  19. Boo Radley says:

Alex, have you even visited Montreal? Montreal’s a beautiful spectacular city that combines the traditional European beauty with the luxurious North American life style. Visit Montreal and you’ll never want to leave 🙂

Besides, Canada has a higher standard of living and GDP than Italy, US, UK and France so you shouldn’t be that surprised 😉

Anyway, thanks for leaving your comment. I promise you I’ll vote for Madrid too and who knows maybe you guys can make it into the top 20 🙂

  20. matt says:

Alex – what a dumb though emotional post! Just tell your friends and vote for Madrid… I’m really impressed that Montrealians (?) are so good in marketing their city.

But i’ll tell you something – it’s probably the problem of knowing that such contest exists. Most persons never heard about it – but when some papers or TV start to talk about it – more and more local partiots vote… I can see it clearly what happend in few days with Gdynia (Poland).

Voting has nothing to do with being better – but being orginised and interested.

See the LOUSY results of Toronto, which easily could be in top, but marely because there are 5 milion dwellers in metro area. Not because it is FABULOUS city – and that is simply because no one in the world knows about it!

Nice, fabulous cities? See where Rio is… and what is so fabulous about NYC? Ugly architecture, dirty streets, no trees and high crime rate?

    Do not be ridiculous!

  21. Rob says:

    @ Terry Mulvey:

Pull your head out of your ass.

    Thanks!

  22. Rocky says:

    Hey T.O.

  23. LOC says:

For all Canadian in the world, just tell friends to vote for
    1) Montreal 2) Vancouver 3) Toronto otherwise we could loose because we don’t stand strong together.

  24. Louis says:

    Mr Alex,
I understand that your comment is coming out of frustration. It also shows that you think that your city is better than any of ours. I’m not really surprised : that confirms what have been told to me about spanish people : they’re pretentious, abnoxious. But then again, if I would judge your people based on the comment of one person in a forum, I wouldn’t be too smart.
I’m from Montréal and I can tell you that i’m deeply offended by the way you described my city. On the other hand, as I said as an introduction, you sound deeply frustrated. So, at the end, I feel sorry for you. Until now and since the contest started, I was listing Madrid as one of my ten daily cities. From today on, it’s over.

  25. Terry Mulvey says:

    Rob Feb. 5th, 2008

    You must be from Toronta
    Been anywhere else.
I have been to Toronto ONCE
    Won’t go back.

I vote for Winterpeg over “The armpit of the world”

  26. Bud_Veizer says:

I’m sure Montréal won’t stay at the top for long because I think other cities, like Paris and London, will wake up and make their people vote out when they all hear about that contest. There’s still 3 weeks remaining until the contest ends and everything can (and will certainly) change. Vote For Herouxville, QC !!!

  27. matt says:

to Terry – sorry, but it is so stupid to vote negative – try to vote for once positive – in your case think this way – I’m Canadian, so I promote everything Canadian – even if it’s not one of my favorite ones…

I wonder what you’ve seen in Toronto – probably not more then a beer shop :))

  28. JPMartineau says:

    Matt => Montrealers, not Montrealians

    >I find it SCANADALOUS on what you are doing with canadian cities. WHO CAN BELIEVE THAT MONTREAL IS BETTER THAN ROME, NEW YORK, LONDON OR PARIS?

    Álex => Scandal, schmandal!

We have the best of all these cities.
    – NYC: A park designed by Frederick Law Olmstead, the guy that did Central Park. It’s actually bigger than Central Park and it’s built on a mountain too. Better Delis and fewer rats too.
    – London: We have a good sense of humor, like the British! We have smog too, and her majesty the Queen on our coins. We have excellent Indian curries too.
    – Paris: We have better women than Paris. If you think Paris is the city of love, you should come to Montreal when the snow melts. We also have decent bread and good food: excellent restaurants and public markets.
    – Rome: The Italian community is an integral part of Montreal and part of the city shuts down when the Italians score a goal in the World Cup. We drive like Romans, but on snow and ice.

Name one city has hosted the Olympics, a Universal Fair and the Pope. We also host bunches of drunken American teenagers on every weekend!

  29. nick says:

Montreal is now first, and the gap is getting bigger.

And by the way Alex… If they did not want people to vote and decide which city will take the lead, they should not have made a poll out of this.

I do hope that they will be true to the results. If you are not happy with the results, stop winning and start voting. This is what many people did, and it is why Montreal is up there.

    My 2 cents…

  30. Alex says:

    Montreal is a great city!!!
I would like to go back there and also Quebec City.
Any Canadian city would be great. We need to be proud of our cities.

    Alex

  31. matt says:

Toronto slips one place down…. wake up!

  32. pepe says:

So , what are you doing??

I’m from Barcelona, and I don’t really mind about this classification. But, do you really think that the three canadian cities have to be on the top 20?
In fact, even you think they’re the best cities in the world(which is something more related to patriotism than to reality), they’re not the most important, nor the most populated or visited.
You’re making your own “canadian monopoly world edition”, for you it will be fine, but only canadians will buy it.
Of course I wouldn’t mind a canadian city to be there, but the top three is too much for me.
So keep voting and be the winners in something for once in your life, but be careful with chinese guys, if they start voting, the whole top 20 will be chinese.

  34. Louis says:

un madrileno : it would not come to my mind to write on an other langage than the one from the website where I post. My own langage is french but I would not try to impose it. There are many french forum where I can express myself in my mother’s tongue. So if you want us to comment or discuss with you, please adress us in english.

  35. un madrileño says:

Sorry, my english it’s not very good 😉
    I try it:

    Madrid remains outside the Monopoly.

From Catalan independentist pages like Racó Català or Estat Català they have begun a campaign to vote in mass to the cities that follow Madrid and to relegate our city to positions that leave it outside the board.

    They have already obtained it.

    More information, here:

    http://espormadrid.blogspot.com/2008/02/independentismo-cataln-tramposos-hasta.html

  36. Jordi says:

    Guys, vote for Barcelona too!!!!

  37. Louis says:

un madrileno : that sucks. It’s stupid and ridiculous childish reaction. As if it will change something in the relationship between the catalans and Madrid !!
Well, despite Alex’s reaction I might reconsider voting again for Madrid. 😉

  38. Mitch says:

    I vote winnipeg!

  39. matt says:

Vote Toronto – it deserves better position. I wonder what will Hasbro do, when they’ll be disproportion of cities from one country (e.g. Canada), or will appear many ‘strange’ unknown cities, which is possible – just think what would be if Hindu, Chinese or Brasilian start voting…

  40. un madrileño says:

    Thanks, Louis!

I vote all days to Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver.

I have spent the summer of 2006 crossing the West coast of Canada, and Rocky Mountains. I liked it so much, and the summer of the 2007 I changed to the “big Cities” of the East.

All Canada is “great”, and surely that is not the last time that I go to that wonderful land.

  41. Rodney says:

Oh my what a statement… “WHO CAN BELIEVE THAT MONTREAL IS BETTER THAN ROME, NEW YORK, LONDON OR PARIS?”

    Let me tell you who…

1.5+ Million Montrealers, living on the Island.
2.0+ Million residents of it’s suburbs.

Being the 2nd Largest Canadian City, I’d bet a good part of the 35+ Million Canadians. (maybe not as first choice but we do have 3 votes.)

Being the 4th Largest City in the world wide francophone community, “some” among the 335+ million people able to speak french.

As far as Rome, New York, Paris and London goes, I’m happy for you guys being on the board. But Montreal’s my hometown… and we love our city and everyone who goes there understand why !

I might argument in favor of my hometown… but I’m sure the millions other out there will be able to tell you why it’s #1… with, as I write this, has and advance of over 1% over Paris (spot #2).

  42. Terry Mulvey says:

    I vote for Winnipeg.

Does Toronto reallllllllly have a hockey team???

  43. vlada says:

Helo i am from Belgrade, we began from #40 place and now we are #13 and that is a good scoor…until this vote finish we will be on top 10….

I respect good campaigne of Canadians 3 towns in top 20th that is amasing…but do you realy belive that Hasbro will alow 3 cities form one country to be on the board ?

Ps. soory on my bad englsih

  44. pepe says:

    Hi “un madrileño”.

I’ve voted several times for both Barcelona and Madrid.
I hope that you’ll be voting for Barcelona too, just because you’re voting for many cities (at least for the canadian ones).
If you are doing so, thank you very much. If you’re not, please start now!!
I’ve also seen that Sevilla is on the top 20 wildcard cities, I’ve been voting for Burgos, but I’m reconsidering voting for Sevilla! Let’s also go for it!!
Also I’ve got to tell you that I don’t really think that this stupid guys that want to leave Madrid outside the top 20 are the main responsibles for that, because Barcelona is also losing positions in the rank, and in a few days it will be outside the top 20 too (althoug I still think they’re stupid).

  45. Erik says:

I think that people should stop craping on other cities being ahead of them. They should just start getting people from their own city to start voting. Montreal and Vancouver are great cities. Can’t say the same for Toronto, but hey, its Canadian. Also don’t forget to vote for the wild card cities. Quebec City and Winnipeg still have a chance to make it.

    Leafs Suck
    Go Habs Go

  46. matt says:

    Toronto goes BACK 2 places

  47. Boo Radley says:

    Keep voting guys 🙂
Vote for Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver in the main section.
In the Wildcard cities vote for Quebec and Winnipeg

  48. matt says:

I’m afraid that those from Vancouver and Montreal do NOT vote Toronto – but do as you like…

  49. MattSEK says:

    Don’t forget Berlin!

    Montreal’s #1.

  50. Ramon says:

I’m from Barcelona, and I’m soooooooo happy to see Montreal in the first place.

Montreal is one of the best cities I’ve ever seen with New York and Berlin. Montreal is a perfect mixture of eurpean and american culture, montreal is a great great great place.

I vote for Montreal, Barcelona, Berlin and New York. All these cities have something special in their own way. Barcelona is my city, a lovely and wonderful place where culture and art are everywhere, New York is…NEW YORK, the capital of the world, and Berlin is from my point of view the european capital, a city that never sleeps, a cool and underground city, and finally Montreal…what to say? A perfect place, with nice people everywhere, nice architecture, great festivals, to be on summer in Montreal is like to be in a all thay party,Montreal is great, belive me….

So why Montreal can’t be on the first place ?¿ From Europe I vote for you. Yes, you can, yes, we can !!!!!!!! HAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA

    (AND DON’T FORGET BERLIN) 😉

  51. Ramon says:

And of course, don’t forget Barcelona. 😉

  52. Edward says:

Nobody can say that Toronto, Montreal, or Vancouver are crappy cities. On the Mercer Human Resource Consulting rankings of the best cities around the world, Vancouver ranked 3rd, Toronto ranked 15, and Montreal ranked 24. None current leaders of the monopoly challenge are higher than Vancouver, and only a couple are higher then Toronto or Montreal. These three cities deserve a place on the Monopoly gameboard.

  53. matt says:

Toronto for years got one of the first places in UN classifications – but no one cares – especially those from Canada!

One of the best places to live – AND with law crime rate, what you CANNOT say as regards some other metropolies…

  54. Chantal says:

Being a Frenchi from Montreal and having traveling the world, I am very proud to see our cities on top of the list. Yes Barcelona, Paris, London, New York are great, but we have great cities in Canada as well. Toronto is very nice if you take time to discover other than rushing for business. Vancouver is without other comments, a jewel, Montreal is Montreal, French, English, Ethnic, ”La joie de vivre”. An Winnipeg has warm, great people and the best sushis (yes, I am not crazy, been there regularly couple of years ago, hope still exist, Wasabe on Broadway).

It is about time we Canadians stop thinking small, be proud to be what we are, the langages that we speak, the value that we share, from one Ocean to the other.

    Cheer, Santé and Vote!

  55. matt says:

Chantal – very well said – Canadians have this great trouble, that underestimate and do not appreciate what they have!!!

  56. matt says:

    Toronto backs again…

I’ve just seen the list… and it could be very tough tomorrow

it is possible, that Toronto will slide some 4 places down to 20th position, as you look at percentage got by cities

  57. matt says:

I’ve just seen the list… and it could be very tough tomorrow

BY THE WAY – I’ve just seen the list… and it could be very tough tomorrow

it is possible, that Toronto will slide some 4 places down to 20th position, as you look at percentage got by cities

  59. Sebastien says:

I’m surprised and very glad to see montreal on seconde place. I’m from Montreal and I can tell you that it’s the best city ever. It’s not too big so you can know people better than big cities, its history is a mix of different cultures like english, french, ireland, etc… so every people in the world can be related to it and have a feeling of being at home. We are charismatic easy-going and passionated people. We accept differences and way of living from other cultures. It doesn’t frightened us at all. We have the most beautiful women in North America. Montreal is the fourth oldest french city of North America, it is founded in 1642. It’s considerated as the biggest french city of south and north america reunited. For all the french community, you can’t go to North america and miss Montreal because it’s a part of our collective culture. We have a special relationship with France, United Kingdom and United States just because of their past. Montreal has been founded by french people, conquered by english people and our nearest neighbors are the Americans and English Canadians. We are surrounded by english culture (approximately 5 millions of french people against 350 millions of english people (Montreal have about 3/5 of the population of Quebec province). Ou city is considerated to be the Paris of North America and even the all americas….So I think there’s no more to say….about our great city

  60. LL says:

As a Torontonian I’m disappointed at the hatred people have towards my city. I’ve partied on Robson in Vancouver and I love the bagels at Fairmount in Montreal. I love both cities; and besides, we’re all Canadians! I don’t understand why if I, as a Torontonian, can love other cities other than my hometown of TO, people can’t seem to support my hometown let alone leave well enough alone. If you’re not into the way Toronto is, that’s fine.. that’s the beauty of Canada.. there are enough different places that will be a “fit” for you. While I may not want to live in Montreal or Vancouver I appreciate many aspects of both cities and respect them deeply. It’s such a shame few people from those cities (and from the rest of Canada!) return the favour.

  61. bcteagirl says:

Please don’t forget to vote *everyday*! Very important! Let us band to together and vote for *all* the Candian cities! We could be the only country with all of its nominated cities on the board! Go Canada!!!

  62. victor says:

    c’mon peoples vote for montreal,canada

    thx 😀

  63. chubb says:

I vote for Montréal, Vancouver and Toronto !!!
And for Quebec for Wildcard cities…

    http://www.monopolyworldvote.com/en_CA/world

  64. LittleMo says:

I have read most of the above comments and I must say that I am horribly surprised that so many people have such negativity towards other cities. I am from Montreal and am very proud of my city so I vote Montreal but If I were from Madrid, London, or Calamazoo I’d vote for those cities. One city is not better than the rest but peoples loyalties lie usually with their own. Grow up people and vote as YOU like but don’t attack other’s for the way they vote. After all it is just a game and not the making or destroying of an Empire.

    Thanks you.

  73. Pawko says:

Hello, I am from Poland and I wanted to say that I admire that u stick together and have 3 cities in main list and 1 typed for a wild card. I wanted to say that Poles have 2 cities typed for a wild card: Gdynia & Szczecin and I am proud of that, especially of the fact that Gdynia is now second and Szczecin 4. In my opinion, Szczecin is better, hmmm more European, but Gdynia is in Tricity aglomeration and it is (probably) why it is higher on the list (Tricity: GdaÅ„sk [the biggest and the most popular] + Gdynia +Sopot). I haven’t been in Canada, but I saw many photos and I can say that Montreal or Vancouver (Toronto too) are quite impressive, I am not going to offend u because it doesn’t make sense, I am not going to cry that Warsaw isn’t on that list, but we- Poles will vote for Gdynia and Szczecin and I hope you will support us ;]
    Greetings, Paweł (english version: Paul)

  76. Brent says:

I voted for Winnipeg and Quebec for the Wildcards too!

    GO CANADA!!! 😀

  77. Sleaze0 says:

    I’m another crazy Montrealer,

Nice to see how well the Canadian cities are doing. Paris and London should be 1-2. I’m very suprised not to see Los Angeles anywhere. What’s up with that??

  78. Boo Radley says:

Sleaze, Montreal actually went up and was 1 or 2

  79. Malory says:

I’m a little surprised that there are so many Canadian cities. There is absolutely no way Hasbro will make any money in the U.S. if NYC is the only U.S. Likewise, although we are proud Canadians, a lot of people will be scratching their head if Montreal is Boardwalk as opposed to Paris, Berlin or Tokyo. Fantastic cities such as Berlin, Prague and Munich have also been excluded… all this and we have 3-5 Canadian cities (2-3 of which many Americans do not even know of)… 🙂

My guess is that there will be different “world editions” One for Canada, one for Europe, one for the U.S., etc. I noticed that they ask for your country of residence when you vote (they’ll probably use that to justify their final board layout). They probably have some small print that says they can do whatever they want regardless of vote results…

  80. Malory says:

Despite my last comment (and cynicism), I just voted for Winnipeg and Quebec… 🙂

  81. katelyn says:

    Hey guys!

    I vote Winnipeg!!!! WHOOOT!!!

It is the 186th largest city in the world so it would mean so much for us to get on the board! Also we look pretty in the summer and winter… so why not?

    Vote winnipeg!

  82. David M-G says:

It would be realy fun to se montreal on the monopoly board
So comme on people vote for montreal

  83. european guy says:

its sad that some people took advantage of other people desire to get a place on monopolyworld (they weren’t even happy with a 15 th place, but yeah). Monopoly will keep that in mind, and they will never allow people to play a bit with the results. They want a market for their game, if Canada has 3 places on the top, yeah then the rest of the world will loose a bit of interest in their game. Nobody knows how Montréal or Toronto looks like here in Europe or even China. Everyone knows how Paris looks like, or London, New York… so don’t be afraid, they know what to do.
To answer some of the above guys. Montreal has a very low GDP compared with Cities from Europe or the US. (Madrid Scores even a lot higher then Montreal, even thought it isn’t one of the richest European countries) like Denmark, Luxembourg, Belgium Scandinavian countries, they score very High, overall in GDP. Here s A lot less Poverty then our overseas neighbors, the main land of Europe has even less poverty then the US and the UK (40 % lower) The average internet speed in America Is only 1.9 Mbps. In the Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia and Germany Score ten times better. See here  http://www.websiteoptimization.com/bw/0504/ (I ve got an internetspeed of 24 Mbps in Belgium)

As you see, Europe isn’t that bad at all. Maybe the US president says so. But yeah  lets all be friends.

    Bye fr now
