Target’s National Price Matching Already Over?

Target Price Match

Despite many forum members being told by cashiers that they would be price-matching, a CBC news story and other leaks of the new policy (including people who said they saw the memo in Target stores), it looks like Target’s great new nationwide price-matching policy will not be happening.

CBC posted a clarification today saying “Target Canada has clarified the major policy change on price matching. Starting Tuesday, consumers can present digital flyers only from selected online Canadian retailers and Target will match that price, confirms Lisa Gibson, spokesperson for Target Canada. Those retailers include Walmart.ca, Bestbuy.ca, Futureshop.ca, ToysRUs.ca, BabiesRUs.ca, CanadianTire.ca, Sears.ca and Amazon.ca. Target will also match any other retailers advertising in the local area”

You can however use online flyers or show a price from the website, but it does need to be in stock on the website to get that price.  It is disappointing after the news was widely shared on social media and Target confirmed that the policy would change today without offering an immediate clarification.

Will this change how often you will shop at Target?

It only makes sense that there be some limits!

  2. FallenPixels says:

Natalka, the leaked policy did have limits of 1-4 items depending on how the price-match was done so there were limits

This is completely different than what cashiers and news outlets were reporting

It does not change my shopping habits at Target.

I actually bought something at target twice since they are in Canada. Been there often but they always seem to be out of stock.

I just keep shopping everywhere else as it’s more of a hassle to go there and then have to go somewhere else.

The once advantage of Target is that there are no customers so if you buy something you are out in notime.

Target misses the bullseye once again.

If Target does not get it together , I will give them a few more yrs before closing its doors in Canada . Someone did not do their homework about the Canadian markets .

I think Target price matching Amazon is amazing! No other retailer will do that.

It sounds like this deal got better ? Sounds like they are going to price match non grocery items ?? I am pretty sure toysrus and bestbuy doesn’t carry groceries except for maybe baby food or candy ? But who knows, they probably mean the candy and baby food or they just lied again….

P.s. I love walmarts free shipping

Best Buy, Future Shop, Walmart and Amazon were in the original announcement, Toys R Us is the only one added

      • Melissa says:

Pretty sure Target has always price matched Toys R Us? I’ve priced matched the TRU/BRU flyer lots at Target(between 4 different locations) since they opened(especially at Christmas!) and never had an issue.

  8. Jenn says:

No, it does not because I don’t usually shop at Target. I think I have only made two purchases from there since they opened here.

It does make sense to have a limit. Sometimes consumers need to have to be given some limitations or some will start abusing the policies and it’ll only end up costing the rest of us.
