Went after lunchtime today to my local store. Found womenswear is full of casual pieces and the few dressy pieces did not suit. Scored in menswear-one dress shirt and pkg of cotton handkerchieves. Plan to return tomorrow morning to see what additional stock is on the racks.
Rolling baskets were at a premium-after several minutes with one, I asked someone with a few hangers in hand if she’d take it. She accepted!

Business was steady-two checkout lanes closed while I was waiting so allow extra time for browsing then waiting. Bring change so you don’t have to wait for cashier to call manager for change (which adds times to checkout).

I am not sure if this is a place I can post this or not but if it is a problem you are free to delete it. Through the years we have been patrons of Value Village, we have spent a lot of money there and have also made donations to their collection cart at the front entrance. Being a diabetic I thought it would help the Canadian Diabetes Association even though I heard that the association only gets about 2% of the money they make. We have had a cordial enough relationship, even though their prices have gone through the roof. A few years ago they did grab my husbands coat from the counter and sold it (they said) with a lot of his personal things in the pockets. We were offered a 50% discount on our purchases on our next trip there, we declined to take it because, after all, we thought it is a charity, all for a good cause I thought…. Tonight we were there, as we usually are on Wednesday evenings Both my daughter and I picked up a considerable amount of items as usual, she was not feeling well so she asked me to pay for hers along with mine and stepped out to get some air. The cashier rang up our choices until she came to a pair of sandals and without a word to me called for the supervisor. When the Supervisor came, the cashier said “the tag has been changed on these shoes, they should be $12.99” The Supervisor, Patty, said yes they should be 12.99. They then asked if the shoes were for me or my daughter, they were mine size 7 while my daughter takes 81/2. Patty then passed the shoes to the cashier, whose demeanor let me know that she felt I had changed the tag. Supervisor Patty walked away giving me a comtemptuous look saying Merry Christmas I did not change the tag, nor would I be dishonest with any business, even though their price is as high, and sometimes higher than a regular retail store. I resent the treatment I received, having to stand at the counter while others looked on and practically being called a thief. I will no longer shop at Saint John Value Village nor will they ever get another donation from me. I intend to take the shoes to management tomorrow and let them show me how they feel the price was tampered with. Their store is the one guilty of price gouging.
