DELL Canada has a new music store and I can’t help but notice how cheap the songs are compared to iTunes and Amazon.ca. Song prices are:
- 10 songs for $7.99 ($0.79 each)
- 20 songs for $13.99 ($0.70 each)
- 30 songs for $19.99 ($0.67 each)
For example, U2’s album No line on the Horizon which DELL advertises in the picture above is sold at Amazon.ca for $12.99. It consists of 11 songs so say you can eliminate 1 song, you’d download the album (minus 1 song) from DELL for $7.99. Of course the CD wouldn’t be included but who listens to CDs nowadays anyhow.

I’d rather have a CD with proper artwork and full sound quality rather than an MP3 anyday. I know the average consumer doesn’t realise (or care) just how much sound quality is lost when a song is compressed to MP3…but do a little google research on MP3’s and you will see how much the sound quality is affected.
For one thing, these songs come with DRM, so stay away! I’d rather buy my music on iTunes (Plus) knowing that I can freely move my music between devices (fairly).
And as for CD vs MP3 … sounds like you’ve never purchased a song on iTunes, these are not not the low quality MP3s people are sharing via P2P.
Stick with Amazon, no DRM!
How do you download from Amazon when you are in Canada? I just tried to download a song from Amazon.com and it wouldn’t let me. Do you have am American account or use a proxy or something?
OMG I didn’t know it was DRM! Sorry guys!
Stephen, you buy the cd from Amazon.ca. I don’t think you can download from Amazon.com
Hmmm… it seems that you can choose either MP3 files OR WMA files. Where do you guys see DRM mentioned? It’s a pretty decent deal either way.
(Though I would definitely rather order from the Amazon MP3 store if only they would accept Canadian orders… sigh.
Cd’s do go on sale at Amazon pretty cheap. In Dec I got Kanye West 808’s and heartbreaks and the Killers new cd on for 7.99 each.
Sometimes if its a band I really like Ill buy the cd for collecting wise.
I’m with Andrew, stick with Amazon, boo to DRM.

I would always stick with iTunes and Amazon, no matter what.
I always use iTunes and Amazon. Nothing more.
Amazon.ca has no MP3s to download and Amazon.com detects your location (through your DNS IP address from your Internet provider) I haven’t tried but they may also reject a Canadian credit card at .com
You can overcome this US only restriction by an annonymous proxy server use or US DNS service or remote desktopping into a US webhosting server desktop (cheap ones start at $3/month)
DRM is digital rights management is any technology, whether by Dell, the record company or a record industry body that restricts the copying of the MP3 – copies may be limited to a number or world region or user etc.
magnificent points altogether, you just won a logo new reader. What might you suggest about your post that you made a few days in the past? Any sure?
It appears Dell Canada music store is no more :/
