Michaels Canada Recalls Ashland Holiday Paper Boxes Due to Risk Of Microbial Hazard


Screen Shot 2016-02-17 at 10.51.03 AMWe know we have a lot of DIYers on SmartCanucks and we want to warn you that Michaels Canada is recalling its Ashland Holiday Paper Boxes. The circle, square and rectangular-shaped boxes are made of cardboard wrapped in decorative paper with ribbon accents or embellishments including burlap. Boxes come in 9 themes and 3 sizes: small, medium and large.

Reason for recall:

  • Aspergillus mold was found on some of the boxes, posing a risk of respiratory or other infections in individuals with chronic health problems or weakened immune systems.

Number sold:

  • 1,100 were sold in Canada.

Remedy:

  • Consumers should bring the product, a photo of the product, or register receipt to any Michaels store for a refund.

Despite the recall, neither Health Canada nor Michaels has received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of the decorative boxes.
