OC Transpo is offering O-Train and bus services for free on weekends until the end of February. This is a lame attempt by them to compensate for their 2 month selfish strike during which many people lost their jobs simply because they couldn’t go to work. Not to mention students missing exams, people stranded in below freezing temperatures and many people’s holiday season ruined. Thank you OC Transpo.
Interestingly people who paid for Ecopasses for December and January were not reimbursed while anyone can ride this weekend for free even those who never bought a pass in the first place. It’s all pretty messed up.
As well as weekends being free during February note that all O-Train and bus services are free until February 15, 2009.

It’s absolutely ridiculous that the city allowed the strike to go on for so long. It’s pretty obvious that they could have settled, but thought they’d get away with breaking a union first.
Just to pointout. It is not really OC Transpo that is giving the free service, it’s the city of ottawa that is.
And they’re considering rejecting the idea of free service till end of feb. as it would cost another 1.1M
They ALSO wasted $300, 000 in gas. As they wanted to save the batteries and run the busses a bit every 2 weeks. In the end, they replaced the batteries instead.
Methinks they should get better accountants
This isn’t so “free”…the taxpayers are paying for it. This “goodwill” gesture is costing us more than it would if those that ride the bus just pay for their fare.
I appreciate those that had December passes getting a month free (since they couldn’t use it), but everyone else should be paying. We can’t afford this “gesture”.
