The Montreal-based company has announced that they will be closing 14 of their stores this year and plan to close another another 40 stores across Canada over the next three years. Some of you may have noticed a few changes the last time you visited your local McDonald’s Canada restaurant: a friendly greeter or maybe a new self-ordering kiosk? These changes have been part of McDonald’s effort to bring a new level of customer service to the fast food industry while also introducing new customizable menu items to its already long list of offerings.

As these changes roll out across the country beginning in the Greater Toronto Area, McDonald’s will be hiring approximately 100,000 new employees in 1,000 different restaurants. McDonald’s hopes that these new changes will cater to customers’ desires to have a more personal and unique experience at each restaurant; similar to what Chipotle and Five Guys are doing.

The “Create Your Taste” program is a new option at numerous McDonald’s restaurants where customers can build their own premium burger. They can chose from almost 30 different options including five types of cheese, 12 toppings, two buns or lettuce wrap, as well as nine sauces!

McDonald’s will be introducing these new renovations, self-ordering kiosks, menu items and jobs to approximately 1,000 locations across the country by the end of 2017.
