could one use the 10 000 points coupon as well and get a total of 25 000 points? , are point offers stackable>????

  2. mcminsen says:

    Nope, sorry.

“Not to be used in conjunction with any other points promotions or offers.”

    Would be nice, though. 🙂

  3. sampler10 says:

ok fine then…can i atleast get the points if i use a shoppers gift card to pay for my products of $75 and more????

  4. mcminsen says:

Yes! Buy a SDM giftcard for whatever amount you need, get regular points on that purchase. Then go get your $75 of stuff and pay for it with your SDM giftcard and get the regular points again AND the bonus points.

And if you’re really savvy, pay for the giftcard (at the beginning) with a Shoppers Optimum Mastercard and get an extra 15 points per dollar for the purchase of the giftcard. Of course, always give the cashier your Shoppers Optimum points card for all those transactions. 🙂

  5. mcminsen says:

    So…

-buy a SDM giftcard with $75 on it and pay for it with a Shoppers Optimum Mastercard and get a total of 25 points per dollar… 1875 pts.
-get $75 of eligible purchases and pay for it with the SDM giftcard and get regular points… 750 pts.
    -and get 15,000 BONUS points

Total – 17,625 points (worth $54.10 of free stuff for a Plus member redeeming at maximum level on a bonus redemption day in Ontario).

Say you were going to make about $100 of purchases and a few would normally get you some bonus points (like the 1000 bonus points coupon for purchasing 2 Febreze products) then do the bonus point transactions separately if it doesn’t muck up your $75 minimum.

Remember… “Maximum 15,000 points per offer regardless of total dollar value of transaction.”

Can you use points to get the $75.00 worth and still collect the 15,000 in points?

  7. mcminsen says:

    No…

*Offer valid on the purchase total of eligible products using a valid Shoppers Optimum Card® AFTER discounts and REDEMPTIONS and before taxes.

You hafta be out of pocket at least $75 to get the deal. I think if you were getting, say, $100 in purchases then you could use some points to get a $25 redemption and then still pay at least $75 in real money.

It’s all in the fine print. 🙂

  8. new one says:

Thanks..I do read the fine print but need an interperter

Do you get the 15000 bonus points if you buy $75 worth of gift card or do they only give you the regular points for gift card purchases? I want to buy the gift card on 24th or 25th to get the bonus points and use the card to buy bus pass. Would that work?

  10. mcminsen says:

No. Buying giftcards of any type or buying bus passes will not get you the 15,000 points.

“Excludes… transit tickets and passes, …electronic gift cards…”

But definitely buy a SDM giftcard to get regular points and then use the giftcard to buy your transit pass.

  11. mcminsen says:

Oh, and I’m not a coupon expert with these deals. I don’t actually use coupons that much. I know I’m a bit odd for a Smartcanucker… so I can’t advise re: how it works when you throw coupons into the mix. 🙂

  12. sampler10 says:

ARE YOU SURE?, you get regular points when you buy a gift card? WHAT?? that seems like an error on their part?? , becuase wouldnt everyone just buy gift cards first and then spend to earn soo many points?

  13. mcminsen says:

Exactly. I can assure you that I and many other people have been getting regular points for the purchase of a Shoppers Drugmart giftcard, and then regular points again when you use the Shoppers Drugmart giftcard to pay for your purchases, excluding the things that normally don’t get you points like transit tickets and passes, products with codeine. etc, etc.

Yes it does seem odd but who’s to argue? Even some cashiers don’t think that regular points are given with the purchase of a Shoppers Drugmart giftcard and only when they scan your Shoppers Optimum Points card do they see it and then get up to speed like us Smartcanuckers. Sometimes we have to instruct them on some things.

If you’re a little iffy on the idea then just try buying a $10 Shoppers Drugmart giftcard and a pack of gum or whatever (so the cashier will automatically ask for your Shopper Optimum Points card) and then you’ll see on your receipt that you get regular points. Just to be clear… it’s only the Shopper Drugmart Giftcards that get you regular points, NOT (normally) the other retailer giftcards like Future Shop or Esso etc.

The amount of points you can amass from doing this giftcard trick is actually minor compared to the bonus points you get from special deals and events, but you need to get 10,000 REGULAR points to get to the “PLUS” status… so the giftcard trick gets you there with only $500 spending in a year.

Try it, you’ll like it. 🙂

mcminsen you are smart!…thank you for your knowledge!

  15. sampler10 says:

Do you or anyone else see where it says you only need 10,000 points to become a plus member? I am at the shoppers website and i dont see that info there, my friend is argueing with me that you have to have 75,000 points to become plus?

  16. sampler10 says:

    nvm i found it !!!

  17. mcminsen says:

Good. That 75,000 number is the magic number of points to have to have to do a maximum redemption
