McDonald’s Mondays: Paul McCartney’s not lovin’ it.

Other / Canada

I’m not quite sure how I feel about this one.  Former Beatle and vegetarian-activist Paul McCartney is calling for a total boycott of McDonald’s worldwide.  He’s not doing it because he detests the glorificaiton of meat.  He’s not doing because of their impact on the environment.  He’s doing it because a McDonald’s in Liverpool had pictures of The Beatles hanging in their restaurant.

On the one hand, I get it.  He’s a public figure in the fight against meat, so to use his image inside a restaurant whose main focus is serving up burgers and nuggets is unquestionably in poor taste.  But it is Liverpool.  The city thrives on it’s ties with The Beatles.  I’d be shocked if every restaurant in Liverpool didn’t have a picture or two floating around on their walls.

And there are better reasons to call for a boycott of McDonald’s.  While I’m sure he’s never condoned their practices, to wait until he noticed his picture on the wall to call for a global boycott seems a little tacky.

What do you think?  Was Sir Paul right to do what he did?  Or is this all just a bunch of silly nonsense?

give me a BREAK. He’s part of one of the most influential bands EVER and he doesn’t except to see a picture of the BAND here and there? Get over yourself.
Or you know what, give everyone’s money back lol … that would work too. Then no one will still talk about you or dare to hang your picture.

Eek. Too far. I’m no McD’s fan, but he would be better to just deal with the one location–lawsuit, whatever.. worldwide seems ridiculous, especially for such a stupid reason. HE can boycott them, they used his picture. The rest of the world shouldn’t take offence.

I’m sure it’s safe to assume he won’t single-handedly take down Mcdonalds … lol but good luck

I feel that he is doing this in memory of his lovely late wife, to take his mind off of the battle in divorcing his evil ex-wife.

It is not like the picture is used in ads without permission. The picture, I assume, had been legitimately paid for. Thus the owner is allowed to use it as decoration. The whole copyright/image right thing is getting out of hand these days! I mean, Is he going to sue any establishment that sells meat product for playing their songs?

That was a really poor reason for a boycott worlwide?! I mean I myself am a vegan vegetarian and eat fries at Mcdonalds once or twice a year. 100 years ago when I was a kid I worked for the chain and was named employee of the month – My picture was put up on the wall and I was proud as all heck. Paul I’m all for the no meat campaign but your pushing it. Are you starving for more attention?????
Shouldn’t we keep our eyes open for animal abuse and not waste time on silly honors like having our picture up in a restaurant.

Where was the picture? Bathroom wall?

I fully support McCartney’s plan to boycott McDonald’s restaurants worldwide.

Hang on — he didn’t expect everyone else to boycott them too, did he?

Well, as soon as they hang my picture in my hometown McDonald’s, I’ll be on his side.

  9. Devon says:

How did he find out about his picture in the resaurant? Was he in there having dinner one night? Lol.

  10. Skippy says:

What’s Mayor McCheese’s take on it?

  11. George says:

Hey Paul, get bent you elitist rock star. That’ll be the day some wrinkled rich has-been from England, with oatmeal dripping down his chin, tells me how to spend the money I work for. Look, it is one thing that the politicians think they have a right to what you earn and how you should spend it, now this goof.

Mercifully the “sixties” are over, and we can slowly exorcise this wacko decade from our culture. No one cares what you think anymore Pauly.

    Long live freedom of choice.

    jsr: LOL.
Devon: I wonder the same thing…
