Homes will be alive with the sound of music and off-key voices this week­end thanks to todays launch of Karaoke On Demand from Rogers cable.

The new Video on demand (VOD) ser­vice will be free to all of the com­pa­nies dig­i­tal cable cus­tomers in Ontario, New Brunswick and New­found­land on chan­nel 100.

Video on Demand (VOD) is a generic term used to define a pay-per-view tele­vi­sion ser­vice offered by cable com­pa­nies in which a viewer can order a tele­vi­sion pro­gram from a menu and have it deliv­ered instantly to the tele­vi­sion set, typ­i­cally with the abil­ity to pause, stop, rewind and fast for­ward programming.

With Karaoke On Demand, cus­tomers can choose from up to 600 songs (see launch list of songs below) from the VOD menu rang­ing from recent pop sin­gles to clas­sic rock and oldies. Using a remote con­trol, cus­tomers select the song they want and start the song any­time they want. Sadly for those who have to lis­ten, sub­scribers can play them back as often as they want!

The ser­vice is free on Rogers chan­nel 100 and the com­pany says con­sumers can look for­ward to new songs each month
