Tim Hortons Prices To Rise Next Week

Announcements

Coffee_and_doughnut_at_Tims

News broke recently that Tim Hortons would be hiking prices in the coming months, but it looks like this will be sooner than most people thought.

Starting next Wednesday, prices for coffee and breakfast sandwiches will rise.  Drink prices will rise by an average of $0.10 while most breakfast sandwiches will increase by a similar amount.  Ontario will not see a rise in breakfast sandwich costs at this time while coffee will increase in all provinces.

Tim Hortons has already lost the business of many SmartCanucks members, will this price increase send you looking for a cheaper cup of coffee?

I think this is poorly timed. With the recent selling of Tim Horton’s to Burger King, many were skeptical. Even though it’s only a 10 cent increase, anything that tips the scales at this point may send customers elsewhere. If I were making the decisions I would have waited until after the New Year when the novelty of the Burger King had worn off a little, and if it was timed close to Roll up The Rim then people would continue to go because it’s a beloved game. Perhaps I should leave my email in case they want to offer me a marketing job 🙂

Given how the Burger King owner made money by spinning off corporate stores into franchise only ones and saved money by those staff costs becoming franchise owners’ costs to deal with, not HQ’s, money was saved. Expect to see more price hikes to come along with new management style.

    mcdonald’s here I come

  3. Chris says:

Price going up for Watered down coffee? I’m out. Time to go to McD’s , if it’s nearby, or Starbucks.

  4. Gordon says:

The price hasn’t gone up for a couple of years, so it was inevitable with inflation. Just be warned about McDonald’s coffee. Don’t go too early in the morning; if you do, it might taste a bit strange due to the cleaner they use in the machine. My niece told me about that. Otherwise, McDonald’s coffee is fine. Their coffee won’t stay the same price forever also.

    • Brian says:

Your caveat about McD’s early morning coffee is absolute hogwash. I, along with MANY others have enjoyed an early morning JOE at the double arches. Never ever has the coffee tasted off. I am not a huge fan of McD’s but their coffee is akways hood and the taste consistent…no matter where you happen to be.

Why people even go here boggles my mind. Horrible coffee and horribly long lines.
I had free coffee for a year thanks to Melitta, but that’s used. Now that I have to buy again I noticed prices have gone up, but its still 100x cheaper to brew your own at home.

  6. Amanda says:

i remember the last time they raised the prices, a large coffee now costs $2.00, so customers just hand the servers a toonie and forget the tip because there’s no change left over. Now it’ll force people to pay with a five dollar bill, leaving ample opportunity to tip.

  7. Chris says:

The reason that I choose to go to McDonald’s for their coffee over Tim Hortons is because of the loyalty program where I can get a free medium coffee after I purchase 7. Same thing with Starbucks. Pretty much the only thing that brings me to Tim Hortons now is when they do Roll Up the Rim in Feb/Mar.

  8. annie says:

Who tips at Tim’s? Just wondering because I certainly do not. This price hike at Tim Hortons is going to send me to McDonalds.

  9. sarah sar says:

Umm….who tips at Tims? I’ve never seen or heard of anyone tipping at Tim’s.

    • dana says:

Actually, a lot of people do! I work there and end up with almost $10 in tips after an 8 hour shift. Nice people I guess?

  10. C says:

Just one more reason not to bother for me. I only go for the donuts anyway.

Plus why do they need to raise prices so much? So many of their employees are temporary foreign workers now, don’t they get paid way less than what Canadians do? Not only are they taking jobs from Canadians and giving them to foreign workers, but they’re charging their Canadian customers more. Excellent!

  11. Natalka says:

Coffee prices in general will be going up, due to devastating droughts in Brazil – which affected this year’s crop, and will affect next year’s as well.

    • dana says:

Thats exactly whats happened, even more so for tim’s because they use a certain coffee bean that hasn’t been growing as much as it did in the past. Just costs more to get a hold of them now.

  12. Brianna says:

For those of you asking ‘who tips at Tims?’ The answer is actually pretty much everyone. I work at Tim’s and we don’t advertise that we accept tips, but if you say you don’t want your change, or you just drive off and it’s less than a dollar we’ll put it in our tip jar. Most people are aware that we take tips, and when they give us a toonie for their coffees they leave us the change. It’s nice to leave work with a couple extra dollars change for bus fare, saving you talking out a 20 at the bank machine that will charge you a service fee.

    • FallenPixels says:

I have seen lots of people leave their change for tips too
I do if I stick a toonie in my pocket to buy a drink on the way to work and don’t want to deal with the change

  13. Debbie says:

@C Temporary foreign workers getting paid less than Canadians is a HUGE misconception, especially in the service industry. They are required to be paid the prevailing wage, so same wage as all the other cashiers, cooks etc.

  14. Jenn says:

Price increase is inevitable for anything. The fact is it is not going to stop the loyal Timmies to get their usual fix, the McDs to get theirs and so on. It is only ten cents afterall, what’s ten cents nowadays. I’m a tea drinker myself, will the price of that go up too? Wouldn’t matter. I make my choices according to taste and convenience, never by the cost, because differences in cost are not that great. It really all comes down to what it’s worth to you.

  15. Catherine Bidinost says:

well it’s this way I drive bus adding a dime to the coffee i’ll be buying 1 coffee a day instead of 2 and buying a smaller coffee a toonie is fine extra dime is a hassle won’t mean much to them but it will cost me less so Timmys you lose

  16. annie says:

Are tips expected at McDonalds too? Just curious.

  17. Steve P (Windsor) says:

As much as everyone can complain about the price increase coming at Tim’s …. It’s still the best coffee around. I made my attempt to switch to the Golden Arches at one point and after a month, I couldn’t stand the taste. Nothing beats Tims…sometimes you really get what you pay for and call it expensive water or whatever, it’s the best thing around hands down for a quick coffee!
