I Qualified for an Mp3 Player from Matchstick!

Woot! Woot!

I qualified for a new exciting Mp3 player from Matchstick.ca and I can’t tell you how excited I am to receive it and tell everyone about it! I’m totally amped! Congrats to our forum members who qualified as well!

I’ve really been enjoying Matchstick.ca’s programs and I love their concept. For those of you who don’t know Matchstick.ca, they’re Canada’s leading ”Word Of Mouth” company. They give out free products to qualifying members and in return expect you to give your fair unbiased opinion on the product and tell your friends about it!

They simply create a “Buzz” around the product.

As a personal example of ‘buzz’ I recently invested in a Scarf Print Coach purse and I say invested because they’re pretty costly. (I hope to goodness my husband doesn’t read this and see me admit that!). Anyways, I had heard from a friend how nice these purses were, and how they’re the ”it” purse of the season. She showed me hers and how fab it was to carry and I just had to have my own! Would I have ”invested” in the handbag otherwise? Nope, not a chance, Ever. Why do people line up down the street when a new Tickle me Elmo is launched? Why did you rent that movie when your friends said it was a great show? That, my friends, is Buzz!

Matchstick.ca is now well known amongst top companies and come out with new campaigns for free products very frequently. I’ll do my best to notify you on here as soon as new campaigns are out 😀 Keep your eye out for Matchstick promotions; you never know, you could be one of the lucky few who qualify when they are offering free cool new products! Once you have a product in hand talk about it! Write about it! Show all your friends your cool new product! Be honest! Pretty sweet deal isn’t it?

I’ll let you guys know as soon as I get my Mp3 player 🙂

I recieved a call from them today but was not home and they did not leave a message? Do you think they were calling to offer this to me? I called them back and left a message so hopefully thats why they were calling and I’ll still get it even though I wasn’t home to answer the phone.

    What do you guys think?

  2. Khristopher says:

Maporkchop, I missed their call and called back the number and told them that someone had called me and I wanted to speak with the person that called. They took my name and found out who it was and then transferred me to that person. His name was Jeff.
I also qualified for the Zune. I’m so happy 😀

  3. maporkchop says:

I left a message for them so hopefully I will get a call tommorw. If I don’t hear from them by tommorw afternoon I’ll give them another call. Did you press 4 to leave a message or did you get to speak to someone directly?

  4. Overtherainbow says:

Just out of curiosity, are you all in the age range of 16 – 29? I noticed that was one of the requirements of Matchstick in order to get the MP3. If not, do you just fudge your age?

  5. nv_jenn says:

well, i qualified but chances of getting the call well i dont know, i have dial up internet, i would not like to miss out on this one 🙁

  6. Sally says:

No I was perfectly honest. I would never lie on these kinds of promotions! I take this kind of thing pretty serious, this is why I only apply to freebies that I qualify for, and pertain to me and my lifestyle 🙂 Im not near 29 so I was able to qualify. I think each of there promotions, has different criteria. I just dont believe in lying or cheating, just to get a freebie, its not worth weighing on my conscience in the long run 🙂
Hope that answered your question Overtherainbow 🙂

  7. Boo Radley says:

You’re not near 29 and you’re married already? What did you do to your poor husband?

  8. Sally says:

Very funny Mr. Radley, a lot of people get married in there early 20’s! But if you must know how I convinced him it was blackmail, haha just kidding.

He proposal really sucked though… but thats a whole other story

  9. Eri says:

i never want to marry..i am not the marrying type..more of the bitter old hag type.

  10. Boo Radley says:

Guys like to hear that 😀

  11. mrG says:

it is called “being a shill” and it is the reason why the Internet will fail as a useful information resource. I’m sure the purse is lovely, but the freeness of it does taint your judgement, and your buzz is therefore not a measure of the popularity of the object, but a measure of our collective greed.

  12. Eri says:

smartcanucks.ca fully endorses living in sin! i think we need a disclaimer..

  13. Sally says:

I don’t think the internet will fail as a an useful internet source at all, in fact its rather presumptuous of you to assume that If I get something free I would be tainted by my opinion of it, considering you know nothing of me. Not only that but this WOM company doesn’t just depend on the internet they also rely on real life situations. Ive rec’d many things over the years from various companies, and trust me if I dont like it I don’t pretend to like it ”just because its free” I’m an outspoken person and chances are if I like something my friends know, If I don’t like something my friends know free or not is no issue.
My purse never was free, it cost me a fair amount of cash as I stated. I actually wish it would of been free, but I haven’t heard ”buzz” of Coach giving any away, but if you ever hear word of it please do share because that is one line up I’d sleep overnight for! LOL! 🙂

  14. taylorla says:

How do you become part of matchstick ?? I had never heard of it. Is it kind of like being a buzz agent ?

  15. Rachel says:

Just filled it out, hopefully I qualify. I could use a new mp3 player since the ipod is dying a slow and painful death.

I don’t think getting something for free hinders your ability to be objective at all. If I get a product for free and it’s crap I will tell people that so they don’t waste money on it. I’ve had strangers stop in stores to tell me that a product I was looking at wasn’t all it was cracked up to be and I appreciate them saving me the money and the disappointment. I’ll gladly do it for others and if I get something that’s really great I have no problem recommending it.

Sally, I’ll join you in the bad proposal club. I got engaged at 4 am while I was half asleep and had baby puke in my hair.

  16. Coco says:

Have u guys heard on the news lately? They’re proposing that mp3 players with “illegally downloaded music” be banned, and if they catch you, there’ll be a fine of $500 CAD ><” But what about those who use legal music? MP3 players with legally bought music is still…illegal?

    Then again, it’s a proposal…

  17. maporkchop says:

I’m going nuts waiting to call them back or have them call me bak. It’s only 3:40 am here and they don’t open until 9 Ontario time which is almost 11 in Halifax.

  18. Sally says:

Lol Msporkchop, you still have to meet all the requirements. They’ll get back to you, there a very efficient company 🙂

Ya Coco, I heard about that but I think its a law thats going to take a lot of work because theres so many holes it isn’t funny.

They were saying last night if you buy a cd then load it onto a mp3 player it would be illegal, but to me thats ridiculous if you paid for the music already. People have been recording stuff since I was little, I know cassettes we use to do as kids!

  19. mememe says:

Funny you two … I’m 26 and I’ll be married SEVEN years in Sept

  20. Violet says:

mrg is crabby. go back to bed and get up o the other side this time.

  21. JB says:

I also got the call from Megan at Matchstick yesterday and will be receiving a free Zune player! My iPod was stollen a little while ago, so I was looking for a new mp3 player, so this came at the perfect time! I like word of mouth campaigns because they’re all about you giving your opinion of the product to other people, instead of forcing down their opinions of the product on you through so many advertisements.

  22. sarah says:

if talking abt marriage,i ll tell you people that i got married at 20 just after my grad.now its been 6 years and i m so happy. At that time i had many ambitions, there was no marriage in my dreams,I cried a lot but,,,, my Mom fixed my wedding so finally i agreed. At that age girls have more flexibility to adapt with their husbands and in -laws.Now i think that was the best thing happened only because i listened to my parents.I wrote all this just to give this advice to you all people to listen to your parents.

  23. Sally says:

Are you talking about pre arranged marriage?
I dont think I could go for that lol! I personally married because of love, and was in love. But to each there own 😛

  24. benji says:

Can you join Matchstick as a site itself, or do you just have to stumble upon random promotions?

  25. Boo Radley says:

Benji, you have to apply promotion by promotion and each one has different qualification requirements so if you don’t qualify for one you may qualify for another.

From now on, Sally will be posting any Matchstick promo as soon as it comes out so your best way of finding out about new ones is probably through the blog.

  26. benji says:

    Awesome..thanks!

    (thanks Sally!!)

  27. Paul says:

This matchstick program looks really neat, I also checked out there website. Maybe in the future my company will do business with them.

I look forward to hearing any other news you have about this company, and congrats on being qualified for the mp3 player, it will be neat to hear about it.

  28. sarah says:

Oh no no Sally,I was in love with my hubby for 2 years but wasn;t ready for marriage LOL.So basically my parents arranged my love for me.

  29. Sally says:

OOOH ! Sorry Sarah, I was like what the heck lol!!

    No problem Benji!

  30. Tosin Matti says:

I got a call from matchstick this afternoon and I qualify for the free zune mp3 player from microsoft. I’m pretty excited about this opportunity even though I’m not a big fan of microsoft.

  31. dreambaby05 says:

I know I am not under 29 anymore, but tried it anyway. Can’t hurt lol

  32. maporkchop says:

Ugh I’m 21 and I want it so bad. They still havn’t called me back and now I can’t call again until MOnday! Do you guys still think they’ll give it to me or will it be filled by then? *cries* I want one sooooo bad.

I was at the hospital all day so I couldn’t call them.

  33. Sally says:

Tosin, thats great you qualified, Im amped to recieve since im not an apple fan lol!

Oh that stinks Msporkchop, its odd they didnt leave you a msg, just call them back Monday.

Dreambaby, I wouldnt go the trouble to lie about it, maybe next time they have a promo for a different age group. Theres no point in getting there bad books over something so trivial.

  34. maporkchop says:

I got it! I got it! They just called me! I’m so excited. They are sending me an 8 Gig Zune!

  35. Laura says:

So how exactly do you sign up for Matchstick. I went on the website and couldnt find anywhere to do it?

  36. amycanada77 says:

OMG how did I miss this post 4 days ago?!?!?!

I’m off the ball I suppose!

Well here’s hoping I get a call … I suppose I meet the requirements … although I stated that I had an Ipod and an Ipod touch… don’t think they’ll like that too much 😛 ah well

    Hey all

How long after you filled in the form did you get the call??

  37. Boo Radley says:

    I think 1 to 2 weeks

  38. amycanada77 says:

    Thanks Boo!

  39. Sambots says:

Filled out the form yesterday, got a call back today and now I qualify – 2ez

  40. Sally says:

    Oh thats Awesome Sambots! Congrats.

  41. MinxyBaby says:

Thanks for the post! I just got a call today and I qualified! 😀

  42. Sambots says:

Just wondering, has anyone received their Zune yet?

  43. Sally says:

Good Question. I haven’t yet. The girl told me I would get it last week, maybe there just behind, so I imagine soon probably in the next few days.

  44. amycanada77 says:

  45. Sambots says:

I got mine today – along with the black 8gb version, it also came with an AC adapter and the premium headphones

  46. Jason says:

I received my Zune weeks ago. My friend also received hers through my recommendation. You get to recommend a friend eventually. It’s a nice little player. I am planning to look into their 80gb version, the 8gb is too small. So essentially their promotion is working… I want a 80gb now! haha

  47. seapotato says:

sweet, how long did it take for it to arrive?

  48. Sally says:

I recd mine today, they just starting sending them out a little over a week ago is what I was told, who knows.
Anyways yes the 8gb does seem a bit small for what I expected, and the 80gb looks to be bigger maybe eventually ill look into the 30 or 80 but I need to get the hang of the 8 first!

  49. amycanada77 says:

    *sooo jealous*

  50. Jake Billo says:

Thanks for the info! I signed up on Friday the 13th, received a call on the next Tuesday (IIRC) and also qualified based on site readership. It was fairly easy to tell what they were looking for, but I definitely fit into the focus group. For the record, I’m primarily a Mac user but as long as you’ve got a Windows PC to run the software on and are willing to give it a chance, things should work out.

For the record, I received the Zune package this afternoon. My technical review will be going live once I get a bit more experience with the device, although I also intend to talk about the marketing process a bit since I’ve never been involved in this type of campaign before.

  51. Sally says:

Oh thats great! So hows everyone feelin it?
    Pros cons?
Ive used it for a few hours, personally I think eventually Id like the bigger Zune for the bigger screen.
Sound is pretty good, really easy to set up and navigate.

  52. Jay says:

I like the device itself. I have to get used to the menu structure since I’ve been using my Ipod Video for over a year and a half now. The big downside right now is the software. Microsoft have a lot of catching up to do on the autoplaylist/syncing side when comparing it to Itunes. This is a big deal breaker for me since organizing your music revolves around the use of playlists.

  53. seapotato says:

So far it seems pretty good. When you listen to the radio, it tells you the title of the song playing, so that’s pretty cool! I agree, the syncing stuff was a bit confusing, and I still don’t know how the playlists are organized. :S

  54. Sally says:

    Has everyone recd theres?

    I hope so!

Im still playing around with mine, some of my friends thought it was pretty neat! Im still stuck on the small screen, go big or go home isnt that the saying? I do realize its because it is the smaller version, so I’m working with it.
I havent had a chance to move a big video clip yet, but ive done pictures and many mp’3s so far im happy, esp since Jake from another blog explained to me how to put it to ”sleep” whatever happened to the good ol’ off button? The sound if pretty nice, with the extra headphones they sent. As for the syncing stuff Im not there yet, Im still trying to figure all that out 🙂

Anyways just wanted to check in.

  55. Alan says:

I do not post on blogs too often, but this one deserved a comment. information!
