it is really very simple and yes, it’s a ‘man’ thing: any man able to demonstrate the ownership of this to any other man thereby implies that his wife either ‘allows’ him to own this book, or (unlikely) that he owns it in spite of what she thinks. Either case would gain him instant and considerable alpha-male respect.
After all, why else would the set come in a plain innocuous and apparently lockable attache case?

I work with Chapters/Indigo and we actually sold Several(!?) of these at full price and the store I am in is not very big. A Little disconcerting to say the least. You should have seen the looks on the faces of my highschoolers when that massive tome showed up.
