The best way to do it is to print out the web page from Staples.ca and bring it to a Best Buy or Future Shop for price match. You’ll get it for $76 with their 110% price match guarantee.

  2. Jerry says:

I tried that. I was told that they don’t price match on door crasher items.

  3. moom says:

I love my Apple TV – use it to watch Netflix and do screen mirroring from my iPad with some DNS trickery to get USA Netflix as well… 🙂

  4. Eric says:

Already use Netflix through my xbox (and computer, and tablet), but it could never replace cable for me. Also I wouldn’t bother buying or renting shows as the cost of that would end up being more than I’m even playing for cable. Between the PVR and Global on Demand app, I’m good. Mind you there are the shows from channels we don’t get that I have to locate via other means.

  5. Brie says:

Other stores won’t price match door crashers. Tried that. I ordered online, got order confirmation… then get an email today saying the order was cancelled “due to overwhelming demand”. What did they think would happen?!

  6. John says:

Placed my order Sunday morning received order confirmation. Just received an email from Staples that:
“After verifying stock levels we attempted to fill your order but unfortunately due to overwhelming demand, the item(s) that you ordered are out of stock.

We would like to apologize for any inconvenience this order cancellation may have caused.”

This is total crap!!! This will not be the first time that I have not received my online order from them. Time to blast them on Twitter!!!!

  7. Sharp1 says:

I got the same email as John. Totally ridiculous!

  8. Knuckles says:

I placed my order for Apples TV on Staples Website at 6:30 AM Sunday morning. At 4:00 PM Monday Staples emailed me to let me know they were cancelling the order. If they didn’t have one for me when I placed the order, they shouldn’t have accepted it! Today, I waited on hold for 30 minutes to speak with their “customer service” department and was advised I could have the Apple TV for the sale price but they have no idea when they will have stock. And, its up to me to keep trying online because they have no way to place a back order and advise me stock is available. They also told me stores each had a quantity of 5 for the sale! WOW Merry Christmas Staples!

  9. Panda says:

I got the same crap email this afternoon after ordering mine online Sunday morning. The store should give rain checks to people that ordered online.

  10. RB says:

Same thing for me. Total BS. I will cancel my corporate account in the morning and never shop there again.

  11. Dee says:

I got the same email and so did my friend. I’m beyond irritated because I stood in line yesterday to return the one I had previously purchased from future shop and now I will have to re buy it. This is insanity.

  12. Shana says:

I’ve had the same problem with staples and this is not the first instance. A couple months ago I had gotten a coupon for 60 bucks off of any order over $300. I placed an order for one of the Samsung galaxy tab 10.1, the order went through, I even received an email from staples a few minutes after saying they received the order. Two days after they called me saying that the item is not in stock! And they would honor the coupon, but I have to keep checking to see when the tablet will be available again. Now bright and early Sunday morning I placed the order for the Apple TV, to my surprise today I have received and email saying that the order is cancelled.

  13. Ray says:

Based on the buzz in the online community the cancellation of orders after verifying stock levels email is not going over well. It’s not the ideal way for Staples to stay competitive with all the other big box electronics stores. I can see how this may actually eliminate Staples from an online shopper’s already really short list (short due to already low prices offered by others) of potential stores. Shoppers will not want to risk this type of hassle and delay, especially when it comes to their business needs. I’m not sure of the number of cancellations they had to process, but I do know that no matter how big or small, your online audience is the group you do not want to dismiss lightly. Staples really used the”Easy” button to dismiss this screw up.

  14. Mike says:

Same thing happened to me, my father-in-law, and my best friend (I convinced them all to order Apple TV from Staples because of the $79 deal).
I had ordered one from Apple.com, and received it, but after calling Apple Sunday (December 16, 2012) morning to see if they would match the ‘door crasher’ price (they would not), I decided to return it to Apple. I dropped the return off to UPS this morning (Monday, December 17, 2012), only to get this BS email from Staples this afternoon.
Had to re-order it from Apple.com tonight. It will be here Friday.
Terrible business ethics on Staples’ behalf. I’m definitely boycotting them, and I will be sure to cancel my corporate account with them; along with convincing my colleagues to cancel their corporate accounts. I can’t expect that a company this shady will stay in business very long.

  15. Ray says:

If Grand & Toy sold Apple products they could have taken advantage of Staples colossal screw up and converted these disappointed Staples customers.

  16. Nancy says:

Received the same email that they were sold out!!! Totally pissed off why process the transaction when the quantities aren’t there. If not enough quantities were available don’t do a promo like this the week before Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. Chris says:

I’m sure they received a lot of incidental purchases online with those Apple TV orders. that’s bait and switch. It’s illegal and yeah pretty dirty stunt right before Christmas.

  18. Robert says:

Do not shop Staples Canada online. Flawed inventory and notification system.

  19. Foo says:

They were kind enough to collect all of our credit card information before telling us that there was a supply issue and cancelling our order. How nice. It just makes you want to order from them again and again. NOT!

  20. Jimbo says:

This was a “door crasher,” correct? Do such events usually have unlimited supply? I think the concept involves crashing down doors, since prices are extraordinarily low and the stock is limited. I too ordered and was denied, by the way. I can only imagine the number of orders that were placed as a result of people reading the deal here. Check your emails: I received a $30 credit from Staples, I’m assuming from all the whining people did. Get over your sense of entitlement everyone.

  21. Ray says:

People who had their Apple TV orders cancelled are starting to get their $30 coupons -good on Staples for listening to their customers. They could potentially come out of this with minimal financial loss…mark up on Apple products isn’t very high and I could see a lot of the coupon recipients using it towards items that have larger profit margins.

  22. Dee says:

I got my coupon and was able to go into a staples and use it on an Apple TV.
The whole ordeal was ridiculous but I’m glad they they stepped up and offered the coupon.
