Thanks boris_cooldude for suggesting this ASUS deal at Staples. This is what he had to say:
Staples here (in Vancouver; all of BC i guess) has the ASUS 1000HE on sale for $399.96. It has the potential of up to 9.5hrs of battery life, wifi N, etc. I have been keeping an eye on this item and so far this is the cheapest I have come across (cheaper than NCIX, Anitec, A-power).
Cheers
I had a look at Staples online and the Asus EEE PC 1000HE Notebook PCs seem to be on sale for around the same price in Ontario and most provinces too (just a few bucks more). This is a spectacular laptop and for this price it’s a steal. However there are a couple of things you need to be aware of. First of all the monitor is only 10″ which I personally find too small. It’s very handy when travelling but for day to day use I’d go for a larger screen. When buying the laptop from Staples make sure it’s the new laptop not a refurbished one and keep in mind that they have 2 different keyboards: US and Canadian. If you type in English only I strongly recommend you get the US keyboard. If you type in English and French then get the Canadian keyboard.
This Asus EEE PC 1000HE Notebook PC deal is available at Staples Canada online and in-store. Deal ends June 16th, 2009.

Careful! This is a NETBOOK NOT A NOTEBOOK!
That doesn’t look like a very good deal to me. It only has a 10″ screen and by comparison I can find these types in the $299 range.
Yup I was right!

Yeah infonut, I always though the infomut part was weird…
this is a SUPER cute laptop! My sister has almost the exact same model and she loves it. It has a fair bit more space than I was expecting, she has songs downloaded, iTunes, pics, etc. The sound is amazing and to watch a youtube HD vid full screen, the resolution is better than mine and I have a 15 inch screen on my laptop. If you’re looking for a laptop for basics such as music, internet etc, its perfect.
btw..Acers..SO not worth the extra savings. The company is impossible to deal with when something goes wrong, they dont stand behind what they sell. I had an Acer I bought at Future Shop (big mistake there I know) and not even a month into having it, the headphone jack stopped working, then the speakers went. I contacted them time and time again and they said all I could do was pay out of my own pocket to send it to them, but they couldnt promise it would be fixed because its not a hardware issue, its not something covered with the warranty, they told me I must’ve had my music too loud *not possible, the volume barely even went loud to begin with* Then I would’ve had to have paid to have it sent back to me. I basically told them to shove that idea. Thankfully I got the one nice computer guy at FS who did a reboot of my system free and managed to get some sound back into the speakers. That computer was riddled with problems and they never wanted to help or do anything with their warranty. Random keys would stop working to the point I was copying and pasting A’s and D’s and S’s into things. At christmas after owning it 2 years I was getting a blue screen and it wouldnt go any farther when I turned it on, so I took it to my computer guy and when he opened it there was one screw holding in the hard drive. He said either someone effed up at the factory or they shipped a refurbished computer as new to FS. Nice eh? I’ll never buy an Acer again after that.

Good blog. I got a lot of good data. I?ve been keeping an eye on this technology for awhile. It?s interesting how it keeps shifting, yet some of the core components stay the same.
