  3. kingy says:

this is a pretty random posting. not a fan of bacon.

  4. glowworm2k says:

@kingsy, I would’ve thought it was pretty random also, except for one of my coworkers who’s doing the primal blueprint diet… it’s a low-carb diet that’s big online. They just started a “month of bacon” challenge on Monday.

I don’t actually eat bacon (the smell makes me queasy), but my aforementioned coworker brings me jars of bacon grease to use in cooking. I should explain that I’m from a Mennonite family, so I grew up with bacon grease in everything from stuffing to onions to scrambled eggs to oatmeal cookies – and oh are they gooooood oatmeal cookies!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. marie says:

I love frying bacon for breakfast. Not much, 3 slices. I fry it on medium so that it has time to cook through without burning. Then I fry an egg or two in the bacon grease. Then I might fry some leftover sliced up baked potato. Perfect breakfast.

  8. Pauline says:

Turkey bacon is delicious. No grease, and it cooks to a crisp perfectly.

  23. Ashlynn says:

I don’t eat pigs or any other animal for that matter. There’s plenty of other foods available that don’t involve a slaughter.

  24. Nat says:

Crispy! I can’t stand chewy bacon.

  25. Natalka says:

I love bacon, too – but don’t have it often. Once I tried doing it in the oven, how easy it is, how good it turns out, don’t do it any other way.
Sure, I like it with eggs over easy, and toast, but I like it just on toast with lots of ketchup.
Favourite way, though, is fried up and crumbled, mixed with kasha, along with some of the fat from the pan…. ah, droool….
My fave take-out breakfast food is McD’s BLT bagel – SO yummy!

  26. NB says:

    Any way except raw ๐Ÿ˜€

  27. Pandora says:

I love bacon. One of my favourites is my home made mac and cheese with bacon and broccoli. Bacon and cheese are a perfect food combination.

  28. chuck says:

Great for breakfast and for pasta dinners. And even with macaroni and cheese! Yum ๐Ÿ™‚ I sometimes use it for caesar salads, instead of chicken.

Baking bacon in the oven is definitely the best method.

Been pan frying it for years, and I always found that it shrinks in size.

Has anyone watched Epic Meal Time on YouTube? they’re Canadian!

  35. Alan says:

Was it Hanibal Lecter or Jeofrey Dalmer(Excuse my spelling) that said Mmmm tastes like bacon? Heard somewhere that humans taste like Ham & Bacon….Sorry
I’m a proud vegetarian. Gave up the animals almost 20 years ago. No offence to my carnivore friends relatives and fellow Canucks!

  39. Alan says:

I will stick to my Tofu and vegetarian breakfast sausages thank you very much. They tastes like what I remember pork to taste like. But it has been 20 years or so as a Vegetarian. Still working on eliminating the animal byproducts from my diet, eggs, milk, cheese.
Again no offence to my carnivore Canuck friends.

  40. Alan says:

Wasn’t it Cat that supposedly tastes like Chicken? But it could be…

  52. trucks12trucks says:

    love my vegan bacon!

  53. Lumpenfrau says:

Can there be a more enticing aroma than frying bacon wafting on the breeze while you’re working on some household chores? What a wonderful reward for a morning’s worth of digging in the garden. Yum!

  54. freebiescout says:

I despise it, as I no longer eat swine. I was a vegetarian for two years, starting eating white meat, and gradually beef but whenever I ate bacon or pepperoni which I used to like, I could no longer stand the taste.

What I find very annoying is that restaurants like McDonalds seem to sneak in bacon in everything I least expect, like their 1967 burger, and one of their salads, I felt bad asking for them to switch my order since they probably throw it in the garbage. I should have just picked it off. One of the things I cannot stand is to waste meat. I just wish they would advertise it better because a lot of people for one reason or other cannot eat pork. There are a lot of Jewish and Islamic (and vegetarian) people, and I think it is highly disrespectful to these people. Maybe I only notice this because I live in Quebec and the rest of the people here love pork. Apparently it is illegal to serve pork soup to the homeless in France.(I think it had something to do with a political party trying to get votes, and being accused of racism or xenophobia.
Sorry I went off on a tangent, but I am not meaning to devalue this post but just showing the controversy out there.

  55. fahlinluv says:

Who doesnt love bacon? And i have to agree somewhere between undercooked and overcooked lol. But the best way to eat it is when you wrap oysters in bacon… SO YUMMY! (well at least to me)

  56. Eric says:

While I haven’t tried any of them yet, I get an email from The Republic of Bacon a while ago with some recipes. The Bacon Caramel Donuts sounds interesting: http://republicofbacon.com/2011/05/24/bacon-caramel-donuts-recipe/

  57. Amanda says:

This is a GREAT post! I am live Atkins so I eat a lot of bacon ๐Ÿ™‚ one of my favorite things to buy at SDM, since I am going to buy it anyhow! I like it chewier, then crispy & crunchy ๐Ÿ˜‰

  61. tink42 says:

BLTs made with fresh field tomatoes and crispy bacon – had one two nights ago!!!!

  62. Gazpache says:

Bacon makes me gag. I can’t stand it. I can’t handle the smell, the grease or the fat. And you could burn it and it still wouldn’t be cooked enough for me. I’m one of those people that can’t handle any fat or gristle at all. If I’m eating anything and get any bits of fat or gristle then I’m done.

  63. Holly says:

Gazpache: have you tried turkey or chicken bacon? It is WAY less greasy and generally doesn’t have the little fat deposits in it either. I think it is super yummy (but definitely different than normal bacon) and its usually cheaper too!

That being said, I love all bacon ๐Ÿ™‚

  64. Joan says:

I live and die for Bacon, Bacon for Breakie, bacon for lunch and supper and bacon sandwiches before bed

  65. Kimbers says:

oven-baked, for sure is the best, and least messy way of cooking bacon. On toast with butter, nice and simple. yum! now that i’ve cut back on bread though, it’s wonderful with a slice avocado or wrapped around asparagus. ๐Ÿ™‚

  66. Supafly says:

My two favourite ways to cook/eat bacon:

    a) Oven-baked drizzled with maple syrop – sweet and salty gooewy goodness!
    b) Bacon on a stick – Roasted on a stick over a campfire – Best I’ve ever had!

  67. Asdf says:

Seconded, I’m one of the few that likes squishy bacon. Not so much crispy bacon – there’s very little substance.

  68. siobhan says:

wonderful smell to wake up to, makes you want to start the day
