Oh thanks!
Has anyone ever found the quality of the books to be poor? In the past few years, we’ve bought hardcover books at discount warehouses and they start to disintegrate in about a year. The binding material and glue is really brittle, and even the pages begin to yellow and go brittle in less than a couple of years. Do you think like outlet brand clothing, these are outlet style books?
The scratch and dent copies are just that, with flaws. The other discount books have nothing wrong with them and are the exact same quality you would find elsewhere. How are you storing your books? I’ve had some of their books for quite a while and theres nothing wrong with them.
We store our books quite well (we’re book hounds!) dry, upright, airflow, etc. I’m beginging to wonder if it’s how the outlet stores them (or how they’re stored prior to getting to the outlet). I have paperbacks that are decades old that have held up better than a hardcover that is a couple of years old. 🙁
I’ve purchased from them before and the scratch and dents i thought were going to be minor weren’t… spine crushed and a recipe binder type book was half falling off when I opened up the book. So I`d try and stay away from the scratch and dents. Even the ones that aren`t scratch and dent… some books have a black line along the pages so if you don`t mind that, then it`s okay…
I’ve been ordering large quantities of books from bookcloseouts for a couple of years, and have only had 2 children’s books fall apart on me. The rest–including my autographed first editions–have been of excellent quality with zero mishaps.
Also, I highly recommend “The $64 tomato.” I would never have discovered this great book if it hadn’t popped up on a bookcloseouts list. It’s a must read for anyone who ever decided to try their hand at gardening. Lots of laughs and neat information.
I’ve ordered from the ‘scratch and dent’ section quite a bit. I always prepare myself for the worst, so I’ve always been pleasantly surprised with the quality. At most I’ve received a dented spine. I’ve been lucky, I guess!
