Time for a new printer? Check out these deals at Amazon.ca, then. Each of the three printers below by Brother all do automatic duplexing for printing, have an automatic document feeder for scanning, copying, or faxing, and vary in capabilities. They also all use the same toners and drums, drums which last 12,000 pages and toners which can last up to 2,500 pages and are dirt cheap when you buy refurbished ones ($21 right now, or $67 for a genuine one):
- Brother MFC-7460DN for $146.99 – This printer has scanning, faxing, printing and copying, and is a bargain right now at $146.99 (lowest I’ve seen in stores lately on sale is $199, down from the normal price of $269). It has wired networking built in.
- Brother DCP-7065DN for $126.80 – This printer has scanning, printing and copying, so if you don’t need fax capability, then get this one. It also has wired networking built in. Normal price in store is $199. This is the exact same printer as the 7460DN but with no fax capability.
- Brother MFC-7860DW for $226.81 – Not as good a deal, but if you absolutely NEED wireless to the printer (i.e. no ethernet cable going to the printer) to stick it in some random place in your house, then this is the next best option. Regular retail price is $299. This is the same printer as the 7460DN but with wireless. Also remember that if you can connect your printer to the network with an ethernet cable, then as long as you have wireless in your house, you can still print to the printer over wireless (just the printer itself won’t be wirelessly connected to your network).
They all get great reviews on Amazon.ca and Amazon.com and the prices for the top two are particularly good. When compared to Samsung printers, Brother consumables are much cheaper, so when you need new toner, the price will not be a shock. Note that they come with non-full starter toners rated to last 700 pages, which means you should probably get a new toner at the same time as the printer. For $21.40, you get a refurbished, non-OEM, high-yield toner cartridge (model TN-450).
I’ve now purchased my second refurbished, non-OEM, high-yield toner cartridge (model TN-450) from these guys on ebay for $20.99 and free shipping and am pretty happy with the product and service. Definitely no need to pay for original brand toner cartridges.

Brother DCP-7065DN was $99 at Amazon and Staples a few weeks ago when I bought one……the prices have actually gone up!
Also, all the starter toners apparently give about 700-1000 sheets instead of 2000, so that’s something to keep in mind.
