Campbell Soup Company to Close Toronto Plant

Campbell Soup Co. announced that it is closing its lone Canadian factory in Toronto. The move will result in 380 job cuts in Canada. The company will shift production to three existing facilities in the U.S. located in North Carolina, Ohio and Texas. However this won’t translate to many new U.S. jobs since existing workers will handle the increased soup volume, meaning employment gains will be “minimal,” according to Thomas Hushen, a company spokesman.

“This is not about politics or geography – this was a business decision based on the realities of the market and the limitations of the Toronto facility,” he said. “It is the oldest plant in the Campbell network and, due to its age and size, cannot be retrofit in a competitively viable way.”

The company said it will continue to make soups and broths tailored to Canadian tastes.

This brief article concludes, “the company said it will continue to make soups and broths tailored to Canadian tastes.” –after pulling out of Canada. What a waste cuz they will be losing tons of Canadian market due to this

Very disappointed and I will no longer be making Campbell purchases

    Just Briefly on politics.
The Liberals and Conservatives in my opinion are both one in the same; and to think a Doug Ford running Ontario when they did a horrible job in Etobicoke. First he wants to run for Mayor now the province the guy is a joke.

Sadly except the 380 people who lost their jobs and their families, no one else will care. All the grandstanding about, I won’t buy a Campbells soup again will end the moment there is can of soup on sale & coupons to go with it.

I barely buy Canned soup these days, lot preservatives, salt, additives and it always tastes stale and proves to be more expensive than if you make soup from scratch, very easy to do & not too time consuming either. You can easily make a weeks worth & store it in the fridge.
