Supreme Court set to tackle Wal-Mart case
Claim that company tried to crush union gets hearing this session

OTTAWA–The country’s top court, back to a full complement of nine judges, will weigh Wal-Mart’s claim that it did not close a Jonquière, Que., store to crush a fledgling union, as well as a new “responsible journalism” defence to defamation lawsuits during the winter session that starts this month.
The ranks of the Supreme Court of Canada were filled with the private swearing-in three days ago of Nova Scotia judge Thomas Cromwell as the ninth high court justice, more than six months after the retirement of Michel Bastarache.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper abandoned a parliamentary screening of Cromwell’s nomination, claiming opposition procedural objections had taken too much time, and formally appointed Cromwell late last month with the consent of new Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff.
The new judge was sworn in by Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin in chambers Monday and is to be publicly welcomed in an open court ceremony on Feb. 16.
Wal-Mart employees laid off in Jonquière in 2005 are to have their case against the U.S. retailer heard Jan. 19. The workers claim the giant retailer killed their jobs after they exercised their Charter right to organize themselves into a collective bargaining unit in 2004.
Shortly after the workers certified a union to represent them – the first successful union drive at a Wal-Mart outlet in North America – the company closed the store, citing financial reasons, putting 190 employees on the street.
Alex, why don’t you get yourself your own site within Smart Canucks to share information that is valuable to those who wish to read it. This doesn’t seem to fit on this page, or others, that I have seen. Perhaps Jim can make one for you, so people can go there to read about Walmart and the ongoing court cases. I hope this doesn’t sound negative to you- I am just suggesting for someone to creat a ‘place’ for you (and others who post items like this) to type in all of your information so that people know where to look and read up on this.
I just posted a hbc reward coupon for 80,000 points on $40 purchase on below link

yeah, the long walmart comments unrelated to the deal seem a little obsessive.
maybe start your own blog for your walmart passion
